NCAAF: SMALL BOWLS HAVE BIG OPPORTUNITY

The Humanitarian and the Texas Bowl are two of the lower profile bowl games but each represents a great betting opportunity.

Humanitarian Bowl – Maryland vs. Nevada

Nevada is a three-point favorite and the Over/Under is 59.5 for this 4:30 pm ET game.

Nevada (7-5, 5-6 ATS) finished second in the country in rushing with 294.7 yards per game and they have a quarterback named Colin Kaepernick, who ran for 1,000 yards and threw for over 2,400 more.

Maryland (6-6, 5-6 ATS) had an up-and-down season to say the least. They stunk-it up late, losing three of four, but are 6-0 ATS off a road loss over the last two seasons.

Both Nevada and Maryland are historically bad bowl bets at 1-4 and 5-8-1 ATS respectively. Expect the Wolf Pack to have more urgency and they play better run defense, finishing third in the country at 74.5 yards per game allowed.

While most bowl sites offer warmer weather, the Humanitarian Bowl gives you a jacket and ear muffs to stay warm, not exactly what most ACC teams are looking for.

And while Maryland has their share of talent, their inconsistently combined with a Nevada team that puts up over 37 PPG should prove too much.

Bowl Prediction: – Nevada and UNDER

Texas Bowl – Rice vs. Western Michigan

Rice is a three-point favorite and the Over/Under is 74 for this 8 pm ET game.CFB Pick

Rice (9-3, 8-4 ATS) and Western Michigan (9-3, 5-6 ATS) both have Top 10 passing offenses and two shaky pass defenses, so points will not be an issue.

Rice quarterback Chase Clement and wide receiver Jarett Dillard have more touchdown connections than any duo in NCAA history. Western Michigan signal caller Tim Hiller has thrown for 3,527 yards and 34 touchdowns and has a favorite target in wideout Jamarko Simmons.

Thus, the Over looks like a good bet here. The Broncos are 8-1 Over as an underdog and 10-2 Over in non-conference games. Rice is 8-1 Over after playing a game where 80 total points or more were scored and 10-1 Over off a cover. The Owls are 8-2 ATS when the Total is 63 or more points.

This would be Rice’s second 10-win season in school history and first postseason win in 54 years. They didn’t have a winning season from 1964-91.

However, Western Michigan is piling up almost 30 points per game and plays better defense than Rice in holding opponents to almost 12 fewer points per game.

Bowl Prediction: – Western Michigan
