Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Oklahoma Sooners Gambling Prediction & Week 9 Preview

Texas Tech vs. OU College Football Spread/Handicapping

So far Texas Tech has been perfect this season, rising to #10 in the nation – but I don’t think anyone thinks this team is actually deserving of that elite opinion. Things are about to get a lot more difficult for them starting this week with a trip to Oklahoma to face the Sooners.

The last time the Red Raiders came calling they scored a huge upset win. If they can do that again maybe they do deserve this kind of respect.

Texas Tech

I am still convinced that the Red Raiders don’t owe the refs a debt of gratitude for their win over TCU.

Nevertheless they have been perfect since then and are looking to continue that run on Saturday, starting a run of playing all of the top half of the B12 minus themselves of course.

QB Baker Mayfield is questionable yet again but quarterback plays is the least of their concerns with Davis Webb filling in admirably. Though completing fewer passes Webb has actually been more productive than Mayfield. He has a bigger arm and can press the ball downfield more.

The real concern is whether their defense can perform well against a real offense. On average they are only giving up 18ppg but Iowa State scored 35 and West Virginia got 27 last week. Oklahoma is the best and most diverse offense they have probably faced this season. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

If the D is for real maybe the team is too.

Oklahoma

The Sooners are ranked #15 but it is kind of hard to tell just how good this team is. Their one loss it to Texas, which I guess is not an embarrassment but then they followed it up with a win at Kansas which was way closer than it should have been.

QB Blake Bell has been downsliding since being given the starting gig in the third game. In that one against Tulsa he threw for more than 400 yards but his yardage has gone down in every game since then, down to just 131 yards last week – against the Jayhawks!

He has to be more productive than that in general and will have to be specifically this week against Texas Tech.

The good news is that Oklahoma has the top pass defense in the nation heading into this one. They don’t give up many points either, just 17 per game. If they can be good on defense like they have been and the offense comes around just a little they should win easily.

If they give the Red Raiders too many possessions though they will make them pay.

Spread Pick: Oklahoma -7
O/U Pick: N/A
Score Prediction: Oklahoma 31 – Texas Tech 21
