Disaster in Miami! Cancel the parade! Let’s sort through the Heat’s nightmarish debut in today’s news.

NBA news: Heat flop in Big Three’s debut

Heat flop in Big Three’s debut

Well, that’ll put a scare into the Heat and their fans, won’t it? The new-look Miami Heat struggled badly in their debut, losing 88-80 to Boston last night. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh endured constant heckling from the Boston crowd and it seemed to affect them.

LeBron dropped 31 points but turned the ball over eight times. Wade was 4 of 16 for 13 points with six turnovers; Bosh was 3 of 11 for eight points. The Heat scored just nine points as a team in the first quarter. It’s only one game but, if you watched it, you have to admit they looked like they didn’t know how to work together.

NFL news: Jeff Fisher investigates Britt case himself; Pacman Jones out for season

Jeff Fisher, detective? Sounds pretty cool to me. The Tennessee Titans head coach decided to take the Kenny Britt fight investigation into his own hands and did some snooping around over the last week.

Still unsure about how to punish Britt, Fisher visited the nightclub where the alleged fight took place and questioned employees. “I went with the intention of getting as much information as I possibly could prior to making a decision on whether Kenny was going to play or not,” Fisher said. After talking to everyone, Fisher decided it was too early for him to make a judgement. Something tells me that judgment will conveniently come next week during Tennessee’s bye.

Adam “Pacman” Jones’ 2010 season is no more. The Bengals cornerback was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a herniated disk in his neck. He’ll see some specialists before deciding if he should have surgery.

Quick Brett Favre scandal update: Allison Torres, a “friend” of Jenn Sterger, recently suggested that Sterger and Favre texted regularly, that she enjoyed the attention from him, and that she laughed when he sent her a nude photo of himself. If the communication was consensual, it means Favre didn’t violate the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy and would avoid a suspension.

MLB news: Mets to name Sandy Alderson GM

The Omar Minaya era is over and the New York Mets appear to have found their next general manager. Reportedly, they’re about to unveil Sandy Alderson as their new man for the job. Alderson was formerly president of the Oakland Athletics and CEO of the San Diego Padres. He’s most famous for building the powerful Oakland Athletics teams from the 1980s and 1990s that won three American League pennants and a World Series title in 1989.

NHL news: Craig Anderson out with knee injury

Goaltender Craig Anderson, a key component of Colorado’s surprising playoff run a year ago, is on the shelf. He injured his knee during warmups at the Avalanche/Canucks game and left the ice in obvious discomfort. He is out indefinitely and no other word on his condition has been released.

NCAA football news: Oklahoma State WR Blackmon arrested for DUI

No. 20 Oklahoma State may have just lost its star receiver. Justin Blackmon was arrested Tuesday in Dallas on a DUI complaint; he was driving 92 MPH in a 60 MPH zone. Coach Mike Gundy hasn’t clarified what type of punishment Blackmon will get but it’s possible he’ll be suspended.

It would be a huge blow to the 6-1 Cowboys. Blackmon Leads the country in receiving yards with 1,112 and touchdowns with 14 in just seven games.
