A somewhat surprising NFL quarterback change leads off the news today.

NFL news: Dolphins bench Chad Henne for Chad Pennington; Shawne Merriman hurt in first Bills practice

The Dolphins Go With Chad Pennington?

Sick of their poor turnover margin, the Miami Dolphins have decided to make a radical change at pivot. Yesterday, they benched their supposed quarterback of the future, Chad Henne, and installed Chad Pennington as the starter. Pennington, 34 years old, lost his job as Miami’s starter when he blew out his shoulder early last season.

Henne was on pace for over 3,800 passing yards this year but also had 10 interceptions versus eight touchdown passes. He and Pennington are good friends and they met together for an hour after learning of the change.

Shawne Merriman’s Buffalo Bills career started in a decidedly Buffalo Bills-like way. He strained his lower right leg in his first practice with the team yesterday and is out indefinitely. The injury isn’t believed to be major but could hold him out of Buffalo’s next game.

MLB news: Scott Rolen leads NL Gold Glovers; Athletics acquire David DeJesus

Scott Rolen, considered the second coming of Brooks Robinson by many, won his eighth Gold Glove at third base yesterday. He was one of three different Cincinnati Reds to take National League honors, as Brandon Phillips (second base) and Bronson Arroyo (pitcher) also earned Gold Gloves.

Rounding out the list of National League winners was Yadier Molina (catcher), Troy Tulowitzki (shortstop), Albert Pujols (first base), Shane Victorino (outfield), Carlos Gonzalez (outfield) and Michael Bourn (outfield).

The Oakland Athletics acquired outfielder David DeJesus from the Kansas City Royals yesterday in exchange for pitchers Vin Mazzaro and Justin Marks. DeJesus batted .318 in 2010 before a thumb injury derailed his season and is a .289 career hitter.

Edgar Renteria is the man, and not just because he has two World Series-winning hits. His native Colombia planned to throw him a big bash upon his return. However, he declined and requested that all the available money go toward his hometown, which was destroyed by recent floods that left roughly 900, 000 people homeless.

A quick tidbit about the passing of Seattle Mariners HALL OF FAME Broadcaster Dave Niehaus.   The 75-year-old passed away Wednesday after suffering a heart attack at his Bellevue home. For 34 seasons and more than 5,000 games, there has been one constant voice behind the Seattle Mariners, and it was Mr. Niehaus. RIP.  Remember this call?  Remembering Dave Niehaus

NBA news; Gilbert Arenas lied about lying about his injury?

So apparently Gilbert Arenas is even more of a liar than we originally thought. Last month, he infamously faked an injury to give rookie Nick Young some more playing time. Well, looks like his lie was a lie. He recently told Sports Illustrated that the real reason he faked the injury was that he was scared of getting booed.

“It’s a little crazy because I was here with Kwame Brown when Kwame was scared to go out there,” Arenas said. “ I used to be like, Man, it’s just boos. Now here I was six years later, and I was him. I was scared to go out there.”
