NHL news: Flyers and Rangers to compete in Winter Classic
The New York Rangers finally get to play in the coveted outdoor Winter Classic next season – though the Big Apple won’t play host.
The Philadelphia Flyers get that honor and will host the Broadway Blueshirts at Citizens Bank Park.
The game is usually played January 1 but will be pushed back a day to accommodate the NFL schedule.
Board of Governors tweaks headshot rule
Traditionally, the NHL Board of Governors’ Rule 48 banned all blindside hits to the head. On Tuesday, the league approved a change to the rule.
Rule 48 now states that players will be penalized for any and all hits to the head starting next season.
Also, players will be penalized for boarding on any hit in which the receiving player is considered prone near the boards. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
