NHL news: Hurricanes trade Joe Corvo to Bruins
The biggest NHL news yesterday was Tomas Kaberle signing in Carolina – but we’ll have more on that in our Free Agency Roundup article.
Plenty of other stuff happened in hockey yesterday.
To free up space for Kaberle, the Hurricanes shipped power-play quarterback Joe Corvo to the Boston Bruins for a 2012 fourth-round pick. 
Fittingly, Corvo will replace Kaberle’s role in Boston, so this was essentially a trade. Corvo had 40 points in 82 games for Carolina last season.
Coyotes extend Yandle; Leafs extend MacArthur; Jets extend Ladd
Several high-impact players got contract extensions yesterday. First off, despite rumors that he’d be traded, Keith Yandle signed a five-year, $26.25-million extension with the Phoenix Coyotes. During his breakout 2010-11 campaign, the 24-year-old notched 59 points to rank third among NHL defensemen.
The Toronto Maple Leafs extended their second-leading scorer yesterday, locking up Clarke MacArthur for two years and $6.5 million. MacArthur doubled his career high and finished second on the Leafs with 62 points last season, including 21 goals.
Toronto also extended center Tyler Bozak.
The Winnipeg Jets signed captain Andrew Ladd to a five-year, $22-million extension. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
After winning the Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2010, he was traded to Atlanta last season and set career highs with 29 goals and 59 points.
