There’s no point beating around the bush anymore; the Connecticut Huskies, the one and only UConn Huskies, are in danger or missing the NCAA championship tournament. It’s almost to the point that the Huskies aren’t contending in the Big East, but more trying to play the role of spoiler against No. 8 West Virginia tonight at home.

As rocky as the season has gone for UConn, it’s still 13-3 at home this season and has victories over mighty Texas and, last week on the road, Villanova. So we still have to take them seriously tonight. The Mountaineers have won two straight games but they’re not playing great basketball at the moment, struggling to shoot the ball. During their victory over Seton Hall on Saturday, they somehow failed to make a single field goal in the last nine minutes and got their final 15 points from the free-throw line.

It’s nice to see that West Virginia can grind out a win in many different ways but Saturday’s effort doesn’t sound like the work of a team ready to win the Big East. More importantly, I’m not convinced the Mountaineers can win at Connecticut when they’ve never done so in seven all-time trips there.

UConn’s Jerome Dyson has played well of late, chipping in 20 points on Saturday in a win over Rutgers and averaging 18.7 points per game on the year. I think he’ll lead UConn to the minor upset tonight – not a crazy idea considering the Huskies have won six of eight against the spread versus West Virginia.

UConn pulled off the huge upset over Villanova but I do think they will catch the Mountaineers napping in this one. It is crunch time in the Big East and see West Virginia rolling in this one.
