MLB news: Jeter sits out All-Star Game due to exhaustion
Just days after smacking hit No. 3,000 and becoming a baseball hero, Derek Jeter has fallen out of favor among fans and baseball brass because of a questionable decision.
Reportedly, Jeter will skip tonight’s All-Star Game because of emotional and physical exhaustion from his chase for 3,000 hits.
He may have attended the game in Phoenix if he’d gotten the 3,000th hit earlier last week and had time to recover. Players and executives are questioning the choice.
“Derek Jeter has done everything right during his whole career.” one unidentified major-league official told the New York Daily News.
“He was wrong on this one. This could have been a celebration of his 3,000th hit.
He didn’t have to play.”
“For me, personally, if you get selected to be here you have an obligation,” said St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lance Berkman.
Clemens may not testify at trial
Will Roger Clemens not testify at his own trial for lying to Congress about this use of PEDs? His lawyer, Rusty Hardin, suggested this week that Clemens may not take the stand at all.
He faces six felony charges after insisting under oath that he never took banned substances during his playing career.
During the jury selection process, one potential juror said he wanted to hear both sides of the story before making a decision on Clemens’ innocence or guilt.
Hardin told her, “Maybe you won’t get both sides.” The woman then engaged in a debate with Hardin about whether or not failing to testify qualified as an admission of guilt.
K-Rod, Heath Bell feel differently about trade requests
Closer Heath Bell of the San Diego Padres and Francisco Rodriguez of the New York Mets may both be traded to contenders before the end of the month – but both have different feelings about their future roles. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
Bell said he’s willing to accept a setup role if he’s dealt.
Rodriguez, on the other hand, won’t accept a trade if it means he wouldn’t be a closer anymore.
