MLB news: Possible division realignment?
In one of the more exciting rumors coming out of Major League Baseball in a while, the league and players’ association are reportedly considering a fairly significant realignment.
The move would keep the American and National Leagues intact but would eliminate divisions altogether.
One team would cross over from the NL to the AL so that each league would have 15 teams with five playoffs spots available per league.
The team being considered for a league switch is reportedly the Houston Astros, who could join the AL to create a rivalry with the Texas Rangers.
Napoli, Colon hit DL
Speaking of the Rangers, they’ve lost their slugging catcher, Mike Napoli, to a strained oblique. They placed him on the 15-day disabled list Sunday after he suffered the injury Saturday.
Napoli could miss a month or more.
Morneau to have wrist examined
Barton Colon’s magic stem-cell surgery was great for his shoulder – but it couldn’t save his hamstring from injury. He strained it on Saturday against Cleveland and wound up on the 15-day DL. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
Colon was enjoying a nice resurgence this season, going 5-3 with a 3.10 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 78 innings.
Justin Morneau can’t catch a break. First he had to battle through post-concussion symptoms; then came the pinched nerve in his neck, which will reportedly stay with him all season. Now, the Twins first baseman is feeling pain in his wrist whenever he uses it.
He’ll have it examined before he takes the field again.
