Sports News – MLB news: Giambi brothers testify that Bonds’ trainer gave them steroids; Dodgers extend Chad Billingsley; New seven-day DL for concussions

Giambi brothers testify that Bonds’ trainer gave them steroids

The Giambi brothers, Jason and Jeremy, are the first athletes to testify at the Barry Bonds trial. On Tuesday, they both testified that Bonds’ personal trainer, Greg Anderson, supplied them with steroids during their careers.

Jason Giambi said that Anderson sent him packages with “the clear” and “the cream,” both of which “had steroid-like effects without being a steroid.” The packages also included syringes and a calendar indicating when to take the steroids.

The Los Angeles Dodgers inked big right-hander Chad Billingsley to a three-year, $32-million contract extension yesterday. The deal will pay him $9 million in 2012, $11 million in 2013 and $12 million in 2014. It also includes a team option in 2015 for $14 million.

Major League Baseball has implemented a new seven-day disabled list specifically for players with concussions. Additionally, any players, coaches and umpires with suspected concussions will undergo testing with stricter methods to determine how long they should rest before returning to the field.

NFL news: Warrants issued for Aqib Talib, mother; Chad Ochocinco earns “honorary” role with Sporting KC; Erik Ainge was a “really bad addict”

The plot thickens in the Aqib Talib investigation. A day after he was mentioned as a person of interest in an attack on his sister’s boyfriend, a felony warrant has been issued for his and his mother’s arrest. He allegedly pistol whipped the boyfriend before firing several shots in his direction as he fled the scene.

Did Chad Ochocinco make Sporting KC of Major League Soccer? Not quite. His fitness wasn’t quite up to snuff and he didn’t impress in a friendly with the team, so his tryout essentially failed. But head coach Peter Vermes has deemed Ochocinco an honorary member of the team. He can’t play in a game or earn money from the team but will be allowed to practice with Sporting KC any time.

Erik Ainge, a New York Jets backup quarterback currently on the reserved/non-football list, told ESPN this week that he has a serious history of drug abuse. “During my days of using, I was a really bad drug addict,” Ainge said. “I would’ve made Charlie Sheen look like Miss Daisy.”

Ainge said he starting using at age 12, progressing from marijuana to prescription drugs. He was a pain killer addict as a senior at Tennessee and reportedly took as many as 25 Percocets at a time during his rookie season with the Jets. Ainge, who missed all of 2010 to attend rehab, claims he has been clean since July of 2010.

NCAA basketball news: Ashton Gibbs, Jordan Williams declare for NBA draft

Perhaps trying to forget the sting of losing with No. 1 seed Pittsburgh in the NCAA Tournament, junior guard Ashton Gibbs has declared for the 2011 NBA draft. He averaged 16.8 points and shot 49 per cent from three-point range this season.

Also declaring: Maryland center Jordan Williams. The 6’10” sophomore averaged 16.9 points and 11.8 rebounds this year.

NBA news: Did LeBron “hide” from Cavs fans during player introductions?

The Cleveland Cavaliers got their revenge in LeBron James’ second return visit to Quicken Loans Arena last night, topping the Heat 102-90. Maybe the loss was a result of bad karma headed LeBron’s way? He was conveniently absent during player introductions for what the Heat called “a bathroom break.”
