For the second straight day, the top headlines belong to Major League Baseball…

NBA Finals. Stanley Cup. World Cup on the horizon. Fun time to be a sports fan, ain’t it? We’ll fire up the daily news with Jesus Shuttlesworth, if you get my drift.

NBA news: Ray Allen makes NBA Finals history; Thibodeau to coach Bulls; ’Melo thinks LeBron will stay put

Quite the night for Mr. Shuttlesworth, a.k.a. Ray Allen. The Boston Celtics guard led the charge, especially in the first half, last night as Boston pulled even with the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

Ray Allen Goes Off In Game 2

Allen set a Finals record with eight three-pointers and had 27 of his 32 points in the first half.

A memorable moment came just before Allen’s fifth three-ball. A courtside fan screamed “Don’t shoot!” as Allen unleashed another bomb and, after he drained it, he turned and smiled at the fan. Very Jordanlike.

After 18 years, defensive mastermind Tom Thibodeau will finally get the job he deserves. Even though he’s still working as an assistant with Boston during the Finals, he will soon be announced as the next head coach of the Chicago Bulls.

The Bulls will be his eighth NBA team and reportedly attracted him because of their young core centered on Derrick Rose and their cap room for a max-salary free agent.

The LeBron-James-stays-put rumors continue to strengthen. His friend and draft classmate, Carmelo Anthony, believes he’ll re-sign with the Cavaliers. Anthony said he was speaking on a gut feeling but that he’d spoken with LeBron often in recent weeks.

NFL news: Packers implicated in sexual assault scandal

Though the story is quickly dying down, it was a quite a shocker over the weekend when a handful of Green Bay Packers were implicated in a sexual assault case.

The first six names mentioned were Matt Flynn, Clay Matthews, Brad Jones, Korey Hall, Josh Sitton and Khalil Jones – but all six of them have been cleared.

They were questioned after police received a report that a 31 and 33-year-old woman were sexually assaulted by more than one man at a condo.

They arrived to find the six names mentioned sitting together and one more Packer player – who remains unnamed – alone with the two women.

The information suggesting seven players was involved was apparently inaccurate; only the still-anonymous seventh player remains implicated in the scandal for now.

MLB news: Huge week ahead for Washington Nationals

It should be a very exciting couple of days in Washington. First off, in today’s MLB draft, the Nats have (as always) the first pick. They’re expected to use that pick to grab mega-prospect Bryce Harper. With him and pitcher Stephen Strasburg, the Nats will have drafted, arguably, the two most hyped players at their respective positions over the last decade (though Jason Heyward figures into the debate).

So that’s Monday. On Tuesday, Stephen Strasburg will make his long-awaited major-league debut. He blew through Class AA and AAA this season, posting a 2.08 ERA and striking out 65 guys in 55 1/3 innings. The Nats are expected to limit his innings to roughly 100 before shutting him down for the year.

The odds will certainly be stacked as much in Strasburg’s favor as they could possibly be tomorrow; he faces baseball’s lowest-scoring team, the Pittsburgh Pirates.
