For the second straight day, the top headlines belong to Major League Baseball…

MLB news: Selig won’t overturn Jim Joyce’s call; Orioles fire Dave Trembley; Canseco says Clemens never used steroids

Selig Won't Give Armando Galarraga His Perfect Game

The hoop-la over Andre Galarraga’s near-perfect game and the call by umpire Jim Joyce that botched it raged on yesterday. Some people called for increased use of video replay; others felt that we should just accept that baseball has always been played with the human error factor. Armando Galarraga even wound up with a new Corvette courtesy of General Motors.

In the end, though, MLB commissioner Bud Selig decided to leave the call as is and avoid setting a new precedent.

The Baltimore Orioles, struggling through the tough American League East, finally put manager Dave Trembley out of his misery yesterday. He compiled a 187-283 record with Baltimore and leaves them on course for their 13th straight losing season. The years of Ripken and Mussina seem a distant memory right now.

On one hand, it’s hard to trust anything Jose Canseco says. On the other hand, he’s accused just about every player of using PEDs, so it’s worth noting when he goes out of his way to say someone didn’t use them. Canseco told a federal grand jury yesterday that he never saw Clemens take steroids, never injected him or never put him touch with any suppliers. He said Clemens new about his own use but never asked to speak to suppliers.

NCAA basketball news: UCLA coaching legend John Wooden in “grave” condition

Hall-of-Fame college basketball coach John Wooden has been hospitalized and is reportedly in grave condition in Los Angeles. Bill Walton broke the news during the NBA Finals but declined to elaborate on Wooden’s health.

The 99-year-old Wooden won 10 championships with the UCLA Bruins, including seven straight at one point. He also enjoyed an 88-game and 38-game winning streak during his legendary tenure.

NFL news: Disgruntled Darrelle Revis sits out optional practice

Uh-oh. All-Pro New York Jets cornerback has just joined the growing list of disgruntled contract holdouts this offseason. He’s reportedly quite flustered about being scheduled to make just $1 million in the fourth season of his rookie deal. While it’s often hard to sympathize with holdouts, the discrepancy between Revis’ current salary and his on-field impact is among the biggest we’ll see.

World Cup soccer news: Didier Drogba breaks arm during friendly

With the World Cup just days away, one of everyone’s favorite sleeper teams just suffered a devastating blow. Ivory Coast’s captain and offensive star, Didier Drogba, broke his arm during a friendly against Japan earlier today. The injury happened when Japanese defender Marcus Tulio collided with him during a high challenge.

Ivory Coast already had its work cut out for it as a participant in Group G, the Group of Death, alongside Brazil and Portugal. Now, with Drogba quite possibly missing the tournament, the African Nation’s assignment suddenly got a whole lot tougher.
