Major League Baseball trade talk dominates the daily news today – as expected.

MLB news: Podsednik traded to Dodgers; Oswalt about to become a Phillie? Lee rejects trade

Scott Podsednik to the Los Angeles Dodgers

We’ve got more and more rumors, trades and rumored rumors as the July 31 MLB trade deadline approaches. First, a deal we know happened for sure: Scott Podsednik to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Kansas City Royals dealt their scrappy outfielder for minor leaguers Lucas May and Elisaul PImental.

Podsednik batted a useful .309 with Kansas City this year and will give stability to a Dodgers outfield missing Manny Ramirez.

Roy Oswalt could have a new address very soon. Reportedly, the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros have agreed in principle on a deal that would send Oswalt to Philly for a package that included J.A. Happ and prospects. But Oswalt has to waive his no-trade clause for it to happen.

We can’t, however, assume that every rumored trade will come to be. Maybe Oswalt will reject the deal, crazy as that sounds. After all, Derek Lee did just that yesterday. Offered a chance to play first base for a contender, he rejected a trade that would’ve sent him to the Los Angeles Angels. He says he agonized over the decision but felt he was better off staying with his family in Chicago.

Plenty of other rumors are out there. The Phillies are reportedly one of five teams to join the hunt for MLB home-run leader Jose Bautista in Toronto and Florida’s Jorge Cantu could be in the move too.

NBA news: Lorenzen Wright found dead; Fernandez requests trade

Former Memphis Grizzlies center Lorenzen Wright is dead at 34. Few details about the nature of his death have been released. At this stage, all we know is that he was missing for 10 days, reported as missing by his family and discovered in a wooded area 15 miles south of downtown Memphis. Our hearts go out to the Wright family.

The matter seems trivial compared to a death, but Spaniard Rudy Fernandez has requested a trade out of Portland. The 25-year-old, who holds the NBA rookie record for three pointers in a season, is upset about a lack of playing time behind Brandon Roy.

NFL news: Dez Bryant loses an endorsement deal already

That didn’t take long. After he made his stand against carrying pads in practice – one that has truly polarized media and people standing around water coolers – Dez Bryant has apparently turned off a sponsor already. After just five months, Under Armor has ended its relationship with him.

NHL news: Max Talbot “hates” Alexander Ovechkin

Yes – it’s a bit of a slow news day in the NHL. Maybe this isn’t even news. But Pittsburgh center Max Talbot has at least done a good job fuelling the Penguins/Capitals rivalry before the Winter Classic. During a Winter Classic press conference at Heinz Field on Tuesday, Talbot said he was happy Ovie wasn’t there because “I just hate the guy” and that he was “a real douche.”

Talbot has since backtracked but you can bet No. 8 will make an extra effort to line Talbot up the next time they meet.
