The wild NBA offseason continues to lead the charge in today’s news.

NBA news: Heat get stronger, Chandler’s new team isn’t the Raptors

Phew. Let’s take a deep breath and try to sort through all the latest NBA moves.

The Miami Heat continue to get, well, hotter. After adding Mike Miller and those other three famous guys, they retained Udonis Haslem yesterday. Then, they snagged LeBron’s longtime teammate Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Next up will reportedly be Juwan Howard.

Miami Heat Make More Moves

Is Anthony Morrow the best pure shooter in basketball? At 46 per cent for his career from the three-point, he just may be. So it seems like a bargain that the Nets will pay him just four million per season under his new three-year deal.

New Jersey also added Jordan Farmar from the Lakers.

Michael Jordan finally nixed the four-player traded with the Raptors that would’ve netted his Charlotte Bobcats Jose Calderon as the centerpiece of the deal.

Instead of sending Tyson Chandler and Boris Diaw up north, Charlotte traded Chandler and Alex Ajinca to the Dallas Mavericks for Erick Dampier, Eduardo Najera and Matt Carroll. I guess the deal helps the Bobcats because, uh…sigh. Nope. I can’t justify it.

That was just a terrible trade. Good on ya, Dallas.

The New York Knicks made a sneaky move of their own by snagging Raymond Felton for just over mid-level-exception money.

Not a bad deal for former first-rounder who averages 13.3 points and 6.5 assists in his career while also playing decent defense.

NHL news: Chicago will match offer sheet for Niklas Hjalmarsson

It’s a damn good thing Chicago won the Cup. Otherwise the Blackhawks would have an even bigger disaster on their hands.

Now that they’ve matched the San Jose Sharks’ four year, $14-million offer sheet for sturdy defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson, they have $113,410 in cap space. With just 15 players under contract.

After being forced to dump fan favorites and key playoff contributors Dustin Byfuglien and Kris Versteeg, not to mention Andrew Ladd, the dismantling isn’t over. Chicago may have to deal Patrick Sharp too and will try to force Brian Campbell on someone. Ouch.

NFL news: Vincent Jackson suspended for three games; Lawrence Taylor pleads not guilty

Vicent Jackson just can’t stay out of trouble. The giant and talented San Diego Chargers receiver has been suspended three games by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. But will the ban matter?

Jackson was already quite likely to sit out the first 10 games of the year after refusing to sign his restricted free agent tender.

On Tuesday, Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor pleaded not guilty to raping a 16-year-old girl in May.

The official charges that he denied are third-degree rape, patronizing a prostitute, sexual abuse and endangering a child. Taylor, 51, was arrested May 6 and could face up to four years in jail if convicted.
