Today’s Sports News – NFL news: Drew Brees played with sprained MCL, Cutler sat with sprained MCL; Carson Palmer’s trade request denied

Drew Brees weighs in on the Jay Cutler sitch...

Say what you want about Jay Cutler’s injury, which knocked him out of last Sunday’s NFC Championship; it turned out to be a sprained MCL. But it certainly doesn’t look good for him in light of what Drew Brees revealed yesterday.

Brees’ MCL was also sprained. Or torn. Same difference for the most part – as a sprain actually is a partial tear. But Brees played through the injury for six weeks this season.

The Cincinnati Bengals haven’t responded well to Carson Palmer’s trade request. Owner Mike Brown said yesterday that the team won’t trade him. He’s “too central to their plans.” Really? Dead-armed Palmer is central their plans? I suppose that’s why they’re the Bungles.

Weirdest NFL-related story of the day: A Chicago car salesman was fired yesterday for wearing a Green Bay Packers tie to work. His boss told him to remove it but he thought his boss was joking. He wasn’t. Mr. Packer tie is out of a job. Better move to Wisconsin!

MLB news: Tigers trade Armando Galarraga to Diamondbacks

Armando Galarraga’s chances of throwing a second, er, first perfect game just increased. He can now say goodbye to the designated hitter after the Detroit Tigers shipped him to the Arizona Diamondbacks yesterday. In exchange, they received minor-league pitchers Kevin Eichorn and Ryan Robowski.

Galarraga, 29, was mediocre last year, going 4-9 with a 4.49 ERA over 25 appearances including 24 starts. Mobile Betting at Sportsbook.com

NBA news: Chris Bosh has high ankle sprain

Miami Big Three member Chris Bosh has already missed two games due to his ankle injury and he could be out a fair amount longer. Turns out he has the dreaded high ankle sprain. That means he’s probably all but guaranteed to miss at least the next four contests, give or take.

NHL news: Marc Savard concussed again

Sad news from the NHL this week as one of its most underrated playmaking centers may well have played his last game. Marc Savard, who struggled to come back from post-concussion syndrome this year, is out with yet another concussion. Colorado defenseman Matt Hunwick stapled him head-first into the end boards on Saturday night. There’s no timetable for Savard’s return.

NCAA football news: Janoris Jenkins arrested for marijuana

Star Florida Gators corner and eventual NFL hopeful Janoris Jenkins has been arrested for the second time in less than two years. He was arrested early Saturday in a Gainesville nightclub and charged with misdemeanor possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. His previous arrest came in 2009. He opted not to declare for this year’s NFL draft, instead staying back to rehab his shoulder.

NCAA basketball news: West Virginia suspends Casey Mitchell

West Virginia leading scorer Casey Mitchell just can’t escape the doghouse. He was already suspended by coach Bob Huggins in October for violating team rules; now, he’s been suspended again, indefinitely this time, for an undisclosed violation of team rules. The decision likely relates to Mitchell walking away from the bench in the second half of Sunday’s win over South Florida. Huggins called that stunt “inexcusable.”
