NBA news: Arenas was “just joking”

Oh, Gilbert Arenas. We should’ve known you were just being your prankster self all along. In a written statement released Monday, he claimed he was “joking” when he pulled guns on teammate Javaris Crittenton. The incident allegedly stemmed from a card-game debts. Arenas said he was storing the unloaded weapons in his locker to keep them out of his house and away from his children.

After so many betting pundits pegged the Wizards as a sleeper to make the playoffs this season, Washington has been a total bust.

It seems pulling guns is the only way to get the Wiz on the front page this season. At least they can enjoy a cushy matchup against Philly tonight.

NCAA football news: Boise state pulls a trick of its own, but it’s no joke

Perhaps taking a page from that silly man known as Gilbert Arenas, the No. 6 Boise State Broncos pulled a fast one in the Fiesta Bowl last night. In a 10-10 tie, the wacky, creative Boise State tried a fake punt from its own 33-yard-line…and it worked. Boise State ended up taking the lead and never looking back, beating No. 3 TCU 17-10.

Hey, TCU! Still think you should’ve been in the national title game?

MLB news: Beltre in Beantown, Strawberry in the boardroom?

Apparently, Boston didn’t have enough third basemen with rocket arms.Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook Already having moved Kevin Youkilis to first base (very successfully) and already having Mike Lowell on the roster, the Red Sox have reportedly signed Adrian Beltre anyway. With Youk, Beltre, Dustin Pedroia and Marco Scutaro, not to mention Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron in the outfield, Boston may have the American League’s best defense now. Don’t take that for granted if you’re making your futures bets, as seven of the eight 2009 playoff teams had top-10 fielding percentages in the majors.

We can expect to see Darryl Strawberry competing hard on March 14 – but not in the Cactus or Grapefruit League. The disgraced slugger is one of 14 participants for the latest season of The Celebrity Apprentice.

If he plays it like he did during his guest appearance on The Simpsons years ago, tugging at our heartstrings with a single tear sliding down his cheek, maybe he’ll melt Donald Trump. Maybe.

NFL news: Eliminated teams – and Chris Johnson – waste no time

Not surprisingly, with the NFL regular season done, many eliminated teams are already prepping for next season. The Washington Redskins put Jim Zorn out of his misery and are already meeting with Mike Shanahan; the Bills fired every human being remotely associated with their coaching staff; The Bucs fired Raheem Mo – wait…what? They’re keeping him for next season? Wow.

On a lighter note, Chris Johnson’s recent trash talk about being faster than Usain Bolt may actually be put to the test. He and the Olympic 100-meter dash world record holder are reportedly in talks to stage a charity race. Bolt wants to run something close to his comfort zone at 100 meters whereas Johnson may prefer something shorter that lends well to his quick acceleration off the line.

Whatever happens, let’s just hope Chris Johnson/Usain Bolt is better than Michael Johnson/Donovan Bailey. It won’t take much.

You have got to love Boise State as they once again proved they clearly have the best mid major college football program in the nation. TCU seemed to take this game too lightly discounting the Broncos’ ability to actually beat them.
