KC Royals Fire Hillman

Did we just witness the LeBron era end with a thud in Cleveland? Stay tuned two months of mega rumors.

Until they surface, we’ll let LeBron clean out his locker and focus on other sports news.

MLB news: Royals fire Trey Hillman; Field of Dreams for sale; All-Star game staying in Arizona

At least they did it a classy way. The Kansas City Royals fired Trey Hillman yesterday morning after 358 mostly inept games managing the team. But they gave him a parting gift; they let him manage yesterday’s game in hopes he’d get a final win instead of go out on a seven-game losing streak.

Thanks largely to Zack Greinke, Hillman got his win, a 6-4 squeaker over the Cleveland Indians.

Happy trails, Trey.

Diehard baseball fan? Diehard movie fan? Diehard baseball movie fan? We’ll, there’s some big news. The Field of Dreams baseball diamond, complete with accompanying farmhouse and lineups of tourists, is for sale in Dyersville, Iowa. The asking price: $5.4 million. So, should we just assume Kevin Costner is buying it?

Many Major League Baseball people – from players to managers and so on – are calling for commissioner Bud Selig to move the 2011 MLB All-Star Game away from Arizona.

They’re outraged over a new state law that empowers police offers to determine a person’s immigration status. Ozzie Guillen, for example, claims he’ll boycott the game if it stays at Chase Field next year.

So far, though, Selig isn’t budging.

He ignored the demands and trumpeted baseball’s track record of hiring minorities. That’s all well and good, Bud, but I think you’re missing the point.

NHL news: 41 arrests in Montreal after Game-7 victory; Malkin on the trading block?

I guess the comparison between Habs fans and soccer fans is true; the “olé” chants are a dead giveaway.

On Wednesday night, the city of Montreal went into pandemonium following the Canadiens’ seventh-game triumph over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The chaos included lots of looting, property damage, public mischief, assault and breaking and entering. In the end, the police battled bottle throwers with tear gas. Stay classy, Montreal.

For now, it’s more of an opinion than a rumor, but the Evgeni Malkin trade talk could become a reality very soon.

The Hockey News suggested the Pens should move the enigmatic Geno to (a) free up cap space, (b) find a winger for Sidney Crosby and (c) give Jordan Staal more ice time.

Not a bad idea. The first thought that came to my mind was that the Pens could ship Malkin to Calgary for Jarome Iginla (maybe with a pick coming their way too given Iggy’s age).

If the Pens weren’t as focused on landing a winger for Sid, they could get a massive return for Malkin from the Los Angeles Kings. L.A. has a contending team and oodles of picks and prospects to spare.

Adding Geno make a ton of sense to me.
