Today’s Sports News – NFL news: Kenny Britt charged with theft-by-deception; Hines Ward has thumb and knee surgery

Hines Ward Has Surgery

Tennessee Titans’ wideout Kenny Britt, who broke out with 10 touchdowns this season, is in trouble with the law for not breaking his buddy out of prison. He promised to pay bail money to a friend who was arrested in January 2010 but never followed through with the $12,500. A criminal complaint for theft-by-deception has been filed against Britt.

Hines Ward insists that he will return to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 14th season but the road might not be easy. He’s slated to undergo separate operations on his left knee and left thumb. Ward caught 59 passes for 755 yards and five touchdowns in the 2010 season.

NBA news: Lakers not trading Andrew Bynum; Eric Gordon’s injury status unchanged

Maybe the Andrew-Bynum-to-Denver rumor, which naturally would involve Carmelo Anthony going to the Los Angeles Lakers, was a hoax after all. Jim Buss, the Lakers’ VP-player personnel, insists that the team has no intention of dealing Bynum.

Hoping for a better prognosis, Eric Gordon got his wrist re-examined yesterday, but there was no change in his outlook. He’s still out for a couple more weeks with a small bone chip fracture. He was the NBA’s eighth-leading scorer at the time of his injury, averaging 24.1 points.

MLB news: A-Rod goes “ballistic” over popcorn shot with Cameron Diaz at Super Bowl

I’m sure you saw it. The Gag-inducing shot of Cameron Diaz feeding Alex Rodriguez popcorn at Super Bowl XLV this past Sunday. It was the kind of thing none of us wanted to see but Fox just couldn’t resist.

Apparently, A-Rod wasn’t happy about it. One gossip columnist reports that A-Rod “went ballistic” after the shot and demanded “a guarantee that he and Diaz would not be televised any further.” Sure, A-Rod. Fox will get right on that.

NHL news: Could Sidney Crosby miss the rest of 2010-11? Visa problems delay Peter Forsberg’s return; Keith Ballard out three to four weeks

Uh-oh. The Sidney Crosby concussion rumors are getting worse for Pittsburgh. It’s already clear that he’s out until at least March with his symptoms and he hasn’t been cleared to resume normal exercise. Now, rumors are circulating that Sid the Kid “saw black dots and stars” after attempting even a light workout.

The Crosby camp denies that rumor, saying “Crosby rehab continues to include light exercises, but he is not having trouble with those. Source says he has had a couple of good days.” I guess we’ll find out which side is telling the truth soon enough.

Peter Forsberg’s comeback isn’t far off – but it’ll have to wait a few more days. Reportedly, he has to acquire a working visa and that could prevent him from playing until Friday or Saturday.

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Keith Ballard, a minutes eater, will miss three to four weeks after spraining his knee Monday night against the Ottawa Senators. He has five points and was a plus-five in 43 games with Vancouver so far this year.
