Ole Miss vs. Alabama Free Gambling Prediction & Week 5 Preview

Rebels vs Crimson Tide NCAA Football Spread/Handicapping

The Alabama Crimson Tide has been the best team in college football through four weeks, and unless they slip up against an SEC foe in the Ole Miss Rebels, that trend should continue. Each team is coming off a lopsided victory, and each team brings momentum into their matchup.

For the Rebels, momentum is great, but it’s going to take a lot more than that to take down the No. 1 team in the country.

Alabama Crimson Tide

The Alabama Crimson Tide remains the No. 1 team in all of college football following their dominant 40-7 performance against the Florida Atlantic Owls in week four. So far this season, the team from Tuscaloosa has outscored opponents 168 to 21. The attack to this point has been an incredible balance of offense and defense, as the Tide is 13th in the nation for points per game (42.0) and second in points allowed (5.3).

A.J. McCarron looked good again last week, as he threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns on 25 attempts. McCarron has 10 touchdowns on the year without a single interception.

In the running game, Eddie Lacy helped keep the attack balanced against the Owls with a 106-yard performance on just 15 carries. McCarron has been great all year, but the team’s rushing game has gone for an average of 204 yards per game—good enough for 38th in the country.

The Ole Miss Rebels will be the best offensive team the Tide have faced this season—depending on how you feel about the Michigan Wolverines—but in return, Alabama will be the best defensive squad the Rebels play all year long.

Ole Miss Rebels

The Rebels are a solid 3-1 on the season, and while their defense has been good (25.8 points per game), it’s been their offense that has propelled the team to success.

Averaging 36.8 points per contest, the Rebels are the 29th-highest scoring team in the entire country. Their passing game has been very good up to this point behind sophomore quarterback Bo Wallace, but their rushing attack has been the crutch to their offense so far. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The team as a whole is averaging a whopping 259.8 rushing yards per game, which puts them as the 11th best team on the ground in all of college football. Running back Jeff Scott leads the team in total rushing yards (268), yards per carry (8.6) and touchdowns (3), but the Rebels are a running team by committee if college football has ever seen one. Eleven scores on the ground have been pounded in by five different players thus far, including two from their quarterback.

The rushing game has led them to success in the first part of the year, but the statement can’t be made clearly enough that they’ve yet to face a defense of Alabama’s sheer supremacy.

Ole Miss hasn’t defeated the Crimson Tide since 2003, and unless they can shock the world with unprecedented offense, they’re not likely to sneak out of Tuscaloosa with a victory this time around.
