Indy 500 Odds – A Six-Pack Preview For the Greatest Spectacle in Racing
Scott Dixon
Indy 500 odds: +425
The defending champ isn’t even favored this year but he is pretty close at just over 4-to-1. Dixon has been in six Indy 500s and he’s placed in the Top 10 four times, including last year’s outright win.
He is in a Ganassi car but in practice, they have been just as quick as the Penske cars, which is a good sign. Expect a top-five finish from The Iceman.
Helio Castroneves
Indy 500 odds: +375
It’s been an interesting couple of years for Castroneves, who has evaded tax evasion charges and also won Dancing With the Stars. He’s also won a couple of times at Indy so he knows what it takes to get it done. Hence he’s the biggest favorite.
He’s Penske material, which means he’s got a good car. He’s the public favorite to win on Sunday.
Dario Franchitti
Indy 500 odds: +700
Dario Franchitti (Ashley Judd’s husband) does have an Indy 500 under his belt but keep in mind that he was leading a rain-shortened event that earned him that win. He’s a solid yet unspectacular driver and he would need to overachieve to get a win.
In five starts at Indy, he has three Top 10’s. Look for another Top 10 on Sunday.
Ryan Briscoe
Indy 500 odds: +625
Ryan Briscoe is a wild card for Sunday’s race. Many people feel he has the potential to win it as he’s been steering a very fast car this month.
He has started the Indy 500 three times with three separate teams. His best finish is a fifth but Penske cars do very well at this track. Don’t be surprised if Briscoe wins it but a better bet is him to improve on his best finish, which was fifth.
Danica Patrick
Indy 500 odds: +925
Danica Patrick will be in the race this weekend but a lot of people wonder if she can win it. She seems to avoid any sense of trouble but sometimes she needs to be a little more assertive. If the drivers in front of her fade, she’ll win but it’s unlikely she’ll take it from them.
She’s a better bet for a Top 10 rather than the win.
Tony Kanaan
Indy 500 odds: +925
Tony Kanaan has been in seven Indy 500’s and has been in the Top Five three times and in the Top 10 four times.
Overall, he’s a pretty good bet to be among the leaders as the race is winding down and considering he’s starting sixth, he’s doesn’t have a long way to go. Kanaan is good value and at +925, he’s my pick to win the race.
