Their high powered offenses give way to their stingy defenses in a conference where anything is possible on game day.

Arizona

The Wildcats are best known for running back Ka’Deem Carey who has been electric out of the backfield for Arizona. This season, Carey has 299 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns. Just as dangerous, running back Daniel Jenkins makes the Wildcat running game a dangerous two headed monster. Jenkins has 35 carries for 239 yards and a touchdown on the year.

Despite the loss of quarterback Matt Scott to the NFL, senior B.J. Denker has filled his shoes just fine, but in a bit of a different role. In keeping with the times and going uptempo on offense, Denker has been a third weapon out of the backfield, rushing for 224 yards and 5 touchdowns this season. He is 31 of 55 passing with 326 yards and 2 touchdowns.

While the offense is the face of the team, the defense may have been even better. The Wildcats have the top scoring defense in the Pac-12 with 8.7 points per game, which is good for third best in the nation. They have allowed a lowly 32% on 3rd down conversion and face a team third in the country in 3rd down conversions. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Washington

The Huskies are averaging over 620 yards on offense so far this season while allowing 279 yards on defense. This tenacious Washington team is looking to continue their display of offense behind starting quarterback Keith Price and running back Bishop Sankey.

Price is 67 of 87 on the season for 879 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He has been on point, too, with 4 receivers on the team tallying more than 100 yards this season. 2 of those 4 have over 200 yards on the season and another is within 5 yards of the milestone.

Sankey has been on fire, rushing for 446 yards and 4 touchdowns on 64 carries. He also has 4 catches for 75 yards and a touchdown. Also rushing for over 100 yards on the year are Jesse Callier and Dwayne Washington with 112 yards and 110 yards.

The offense has run 80+ plays in all 3 games this season, keeping with the new uptempo offense installed in the offseason. Washington’s offense ranks 3rd in the nation in scoring offense, 9th in rushing offense, 17th in passing offense, and the aforementioned 3rd in 3rd down conversion percentage.

The Washington defense has been tenacious. Two players, defensive ends Hau’oli Kikaha and Josh Shirley, have registered 3 sacks each while safety Sean Parker has 2 interceptions on the year.

The Husky defense ranks 8th in scoring defense, 12th in total defense and 4th in red zone defense.

Betting Trends

• Huskies are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 home games.
• Huskies are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games.
• Huskies are 4-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
• Wildcats are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games in September.
• Wildcats are 2-5 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Prediction: Washington -8

While the two teams are close matches on paper, the Huskies have quality wins over Boise State and Illinois already AND have home field advantage. A 10 point win or greater is not beyond the realm of possibility in this one.
