Mexico and Uruguay meet on Tuesday with the top spot in Group A on the line.

Both teams have four points so the winner advances to the knockout round while the loser may also advance depending upon what happens with the match between France and South Africa.

If Mexico and Uruguay play to a draw they will both advance to the round of 16.

Mexico’s Javier Hernandez is starting to hit form at the right time and provided inspiration for his team against France by a scoring a goal against France in their last outing. Hernandez ran onto Rafael Marquez’s pass as the Le Blues’ defense froze waiting for an offside’s call. Taking advantage, He dribbled around goalkeeper Hugo Lloris before guiding the ball home in the 64th minute.

Another substitute, Cuauhtemoc Blanco scored the other goal in Mexico’s 2-0 win, leaving El Tri needing only a draw to reach the next round. Coach Javier Aguirre outcoached Domenech, wisely using all three substitutes to create an impact.

Barrera was brought on after 31 minutes when Carlos Vela came out due to injury. Vela will miss the upcoming match with Uruguay due to a pulled right hamstring.

Uruguay’s Diego Forlan scored two goals in a 3-0 victory against South Africa Wednesday night. Forlan scored on a deflected 25-yard shot in the 24th minute, and then converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute for a commanding lead.

South African goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was ejected in the 76th minute for clipping the leg of Luis Suarez as the forward jumped over him in front of an open net. Backup Moneeb Josephs took over in goal. Uruguay opened with a 0-0 draw against France and has four points going into its group-play finale against Mexico on Tuesday.

While the win greatly improved their chances of making the second round they must beat the Mexicans in its next game to stay alive.

The winner of this match gets a huge break in the round of 16 since they would avoid having to play Argentina, a side no one wants to face.

The Group A winner would get the second place team from Group B which is likely to be either South Korea or Greece.

That is a far easier matchup than going against La Albiceleste. But just how good is El Tri? They drew against a poor South Africa team and then beat a France team that is in total disarray. Uruguay will give them a much better idea of where they stand.

Uruguay has yet to give up a goal as they played to a scoreless draw against France and then routed South Africa by a score of 3-0.

Uruguay vs. Mexico Free Pick

I expect a cracker of a match with the Mexicans coming out on top.
