2010 FIFA World Cup: SemiFinals Gambling Odds

The World Cup Semi-finals start Tuesday and feature some mouth watering matchups. There is no doubt that every game from here on in is going to be superb. Is there an upset or two on the horizon? Maybe!

Uruguay vs. Netherlands Odds

Uruguay: +1 (-145): Moneyline: +460
Netherlands: -1 (125): Moneyline -160

July 6th 11:30am (PT)

Surprised that the Dutch are here? I’m not! All they have done is maintain a perfect record at the World Cup and have gotten better as the tournament has worn on. The Dutch appear to be peaking at exactly the right time. A perfect Group Stage record, a ho-hum victory over surprise Slovakia in the Round of 16 and a well earned come from behind against mighty Brazil in the quarters have the Dutch Favored heavily on the Moneyline against Uruguay.

Robben appears fit and lethal for the Dutch and Van Persie has looked good as well. Wesley Sneijder has been magnificent for a team that never looked out of place against the Brazilians.

The Dutch however will be without Nigel de Jong and Gregory van der Weil after yellow cards in two successive games. It means that they are both suspended for the Semi-finals.

Uruguay has also looked very good in the World Cup so far but their road to the semis was not a silky smooth as the Dutch. Uruguay won their Group after beating Mexico and South Africa while drawing the French 0-0. Uruguay was fairly lucky in the Round of 16 as they drew the upstart but overachieving South Koreans. Luis Suarez was the hero of that game scoring twice.

After falling behind against Ghana in the Quarters and then tying the score, it took a deliberate hand ball by Luis Suarez (and the subsequent penalty kick that was driven off the cross bar) for the Uruguayans to force extra time and eventually win the game in penalty kicks.

Uruguay advanced but not without a little controversy. They will be forced to deal with the loss of their best player, Suarez who will miss the Semi-finals because of his Red Card and ejection against Ghana.

The Netherlands are the better team and have looked amazing in the tournament. They are strong from the keeper out and appear to have absolutely no weaknesses right now. Uruguay is lucky to be here and without their best player, they could have a rough Semi-finals.

Pick: Netherlands

Germany vs. Spain Odds

Germany: pk (-105): Moneyline: +170
Spain: pk (115): Moneyline: +160

July 7th 11:30am (PT)

It looks like Germany won’t have to wait until 2014 to be serious contenders! Their play has them looking like world beaters and deserved participants in the Semi-finals. To get to the Final however, they are going to have to beat their second pre-tournament favorite in a row.

The Germans have only had one blip during their World Cup – a 1-0 loss to the surprising Serbians. Their other four games resulted in wins with the team scoring an astounding four goals in three of the four wins. Miroslav Klose has found the form that had been lacking with his club side this year and Bastian Schweinsteiger has been a revelation. The Germans are a young team that is playing like a complete veteran squad. No team in the World Cup is on the role like the Germans are on.

Germany has to be the most confident team left. Thomas Muller, who scored Germany’s first goal against Argentina, will miss the Semis after picking up his second yellow card in consecutive games.

Spain started slowly but has recovered from an improbable first game loss to Switzerland. Teams have played the Spanish tough as evidenced in the Quarters against Paraguay. Still, the pre-tournament favorites are still there, looking to put an end to the Germans incredible run.

David Villa has been superb for the Spaniards but outside of him, there are not many members of Team Spain that have looked incredible so far in the tournament. Spain has had a fairly easy path to the Semis but the Germans pose a serious threat.

Spain will have a full roster to choose from – there are no suspended players on the squad.

If there is a team of destiny in the 2010 World Cup, it has to be the Germans whose play has exceeded even their own expectations.

Still, they have proven to be the most cohesive side thus far and have been stout on defense and explosive on offense. Spain is good, but momentum is surely with the Germans.

Pick: Germany

As a football lover I want to see Germany win this world cup, since they are the only team playing “total football”.The others teams are just playing to win which will not be good for footballs beauty. Even Spain and Holland have played just to win. Uruguay have been lucky. It is this young Germans which have captured the imagination of football lovers. Bravo to this German team and the coach Joaquin Lowe which wants to see beautiful football to win over defensive and physical football.
