2010 FIFA World Cup: Round of 16 Gambling Odds

The World Cup quarter-finals start Friday and feature some mouth watering matchups. There is no doubt that every game from here on in is going to be superb. Is there an upset or two on the horizon? Maybe!

Brazil vs. Holland Odds

Netherlands: + ½ (-105): Moneyline: +320
Brazil: – ½ (-115): Moneyline: -115

July 2nd  7:00am (PT)

Not many would be disappointed if this were the final. Both teams looked good during the Group Stage and both looked relaxed and dominant in their Round of 16 games. Brazil is a solid team with the only real concern being a yellow card that Kaka has – big deal I know. The Dutch keep getting stronger. Arjen Robben has been better than expected and Robin Van Persie looks fit.

It would be easy to pick Brazil in this one but I can’t help but think that this is the Netherlands year. They have gotten it done with relative ease in the tournament without the fitness of their top two players. Now fit, Robben and Van Persie will be enough for the Dutch to upset!

On a sidenote it has to be taken into account that Coach Dunga has a few injury and suspension worries. Ramires is suspended while Elano has been confirmed to be out with an ankle injury.

Pick: Netherlands

Uruguay vs. Ghana Odds

Uruguay: – ½ (105): Moneyline: +105
Ghana: + ½ (-125): Moneyline +265

July 2nd 11:30am (PT)

It seems that everyone wants to see Ghana win this game. They are a feel good story – the only African team left in the tournament. But reality has to creep into the conversation Uruguay is simply rolling in this tournament. The goal that Uruguay gave up against Korea in the quarters was the first one they have surrendered all tournament and with Luis Suarez playing inspired football, Uruguay looks like a team ready to take the next step.

Pick: Uruguay

Argentina vs. Germany Odds

Argentina: pk -150: Moneyline: +130
Germany: pk 130: Moneyline: +210

July 3rd 7:00am (PT)

This should be a classic. Argentina has been absolutely superb in the World Cup and Lionel Messi’s stock has risen to the stratosphere. His supporting cast of Tevez and Higuain has been magic thus far and Diego Maradonna has done a terrific job of getting the most out of his players.  Germany deserves their place in the quarter-finals indeed. They manhandled the English and all of the questions about the youth and inexperience of the team is now gone. The Germans have gelled better than any team in the tournament thus far. Unfortunately their reign will have to wait another four years.

Pick: Argentina

Spain vs. Paraguay Odds

Paraguay: +1 (-115): Moneyline: +600
Spain: -1 (-105): Moneyline: -200

July 3rd 11:30am (PT)

Spain was early favorites, got off to a slow start and is rounding into form. Their Round of 16 game against Portugal was close on the scoreboard but not on the pitch. Paraguay has only scored three goals in four games. With David Villa playing the way that he is, this game is surely a Spain win.

Pick: Spain
