Group E is one that many will be watching mostly because of the powerhouse Dutch. They could realistically reach the final after a relatively easy Group stage and potentially easy matchups the rest of the way.

Denmark returns to the World Cup after missing the last two, Cameroon should provide some entertainment and Japan appears to be the weak link.

Holland – FIFA Ranking: 4

Holland – Odds To Win World Cup: +1200

Holland breezed through qualifying and has been rewarded with a Group that they are sure to win. After the Group stage, Holland may just have one of the easiest paths to the semis and maybe the finals. The Dutch are world class, top to bottom and boast a wealth of players that play in the top leagues on the planet.

Holland World Cup Predictions:

Holland will win this Group easily and could reasonably march all the way to the final. Dutch fans are salivating at the prospect of a Final appearance in the 2010 World Cup.

Cameroon – FIFA Ranking: 19

Cameroon – Odds To Win World Cup: +10000

Cameroon will ride Samuel Eto in this year’s World Cup, but beyond that there is not a whole lot to be excited about. A poor showing at the Africa Cup of Nations may be a sign of things to come. Unfortunately for Cameroon the European teams in the Group are strong this year and outside of Japan, the competition is just too tough for the African nation.

Cameroon World Cup Predictions:

Depth is the biggest concern here. They may score some goals but the holes that are prevalent will unfortunately result in a third place Group stage finish.

——————————————————

Denmark  – FIFA Ranking: 35

Denmark – Odds To Win World Cup: +8000

Denmark has shed their underachieving ways and with wins over Portugal and Sweden in qualifying, the Danes have emerged as a force to be reckoned with. Denmark is a cohesive side with a lot to prove in this year’s World Cup.

Denmark World Cup Predictions:

I like the Danes to finish second in Group E. Cameroon will push them for second but the Danes should prevail on June 19th and make their way to the Round of 16. A quarter-final appearance is not out of the question either.

——————————————————

Japan – FIFA Ranking: 45

Japan– Odds To Win World Cup: +20000

Japan has only moved past the Group stage once and this year will likely be similar. They have a pretty easy qualifying group and qualify consistently because of it. The Japanese boast some skill and technique but do not have the fire power to make any noise. A win in the tournament seems out of the question and a draw may only come at the hands of Cameroon.

Japan World Cup Predictions:

Japan will struggle to a fourth place Group finish. Group E is just too strong for the Samurai Blue to contend with. Last place is almost a certainty.

——————————————————

Conclusion:

Group E features one of my favorites to challenge for the title this year. Holland is a strong side that could finally realize their World Cup aspirations. Denmark is going to be difficult to contend with as well, leaving Cameroon and Japan packing their bags early.

It should be a fun Group with Europe reigning supreme.
