Considered by most as Portugal’s easiest group match in the “Group of Death”, the Selecao das Quinas will face off against what has to be a confident North Korean squad.

The Fightin’ IL’s were pretty impressive against FIFA’s No. 1 ranked squad, Brazil, as they claimed a moral victory losing only 2-1. On the other hand, Portugal was exactly the opposite as they failed to create chances and struggled to a lackluster draw against the Ivory Coast in their opening match.

Portugal will be looking to score on the North Koreans as many times as possible, rather than just take away the three points. World Cup Betting

Two of the world’s most fearsome strikers, Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba, each unable to breakthrough as Portugal and the Ivory Coast played to a hard-fought 0-0 tie on Tuesday in their World Cup opener. Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz blamed his team’s failure to create clearer chances on a defensive opponent.

He also suggested FIFA may have bent its eligibility rules for Drogba because of the significance of a player hugely popular in Africa taking the field. While not a popular opinion, he may be right, though it doesn’t stand as an excuse for a failure to score.

North Korea’s defense played valiantly and earned the side some much-needed respect, but still Brazil’s offense was able to get it done as the Samba Kings downed North Korea 2-1 in its opening World Cup match on Tuesday.

Ji Yun Nam kept it close for North Korea in the 89th with a left-footer from inside. Robinho was about the only Brazilian able to create opportunities, taking a host of opportunities starting with his first chance just two minutes in, but the playmaker failed to get a shot off as North Korea’s An Yong Hak stole the ball.

The defensive-minded North Koreans played with only Japan-based Jong Tae Se in attack, but he alone was able to cause some problems for the Brazilian back line.

Expect them to remain an enigma and use the lack of information on the team to its advantage, remaining a sleeper pick in this group.

Portugal will find itself locked in a battle with North Korea just as the Brazilians did, but unfortunately will not come out as lucky.

Therefore I expect this one to end in a 1-1 draw.

One reply on “World Cup Free Picks – Korea DPR vs. Portugal Line”

WOW ! I will admit being totally off on this one. 7-0 Portugal. It was the most one-sided World Cup match since Germany routed Saudi Arabia 8-0 in 2002. I think the steady downpour and the wet field may have caused some of the problems for the North Koreans, but not seven gaols worth. Viva Portugal. The NK’s defense that has payed so well in their prior match, just never showed up.
