World Cup Fixture Odds: Argentina –250 / Nigeria +675 / Draw +200

This will be one of the most viewed matches of the early going. Fans and critics alike will watch with much anticipation to see Argentinean star Messi’s initial World Cup match form, and to witness one of the African teams who could potentially do well in this first African World Cup.

Argentina are the fourth favorites to win the competition outright, so they would widely be expected to win this, even though Nigeria could be seen to have the climate and home crowd support advantage.

After stumbling through qualifying from leaking goals and lackluster play, Argentina landed in fourth place.

Their lack of consistency was hardly a surprise as Maradona has used almost 100 players since taking over.

Though he may not be the most loved Argentinean coach, he led La Albiceleste to a victory in 1986 as a player, and saw action against Nigeria in the 1994 finals. This team will be big favorites coming in with a very good draw.

Even if some of their troubles haunt them, the talent is there to move on. Veteran Juan Sebastian Veron will dictate tempo, and use his passing range to turn defense into attacks; but the hopes of the nation will rest on reigning FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi.

If he can perform on the international stage as he has with FC Barcelona, the Group B favorites will be a force at the end.

Rest assured that Nigerian head coach, former Sweden boss Lars Lagerback, will build his team strategy around the solid play of Vincent Enyeama, possibly the best African goalkeeper around. Throw in Joseph Yobo their captain and midfielder, who has improved greatly in the last year, and you have a stingy squad with the ability to counter attack.

Despite key playmaker John Obi Mikel ruling himself out of the World Cup amidst fears over his long-term recovery from knee surgery, the Nigerians will be confident that they have enough to get through this group despite lacking the star names of past years.

They will be boosted by the fact they are on their own soil and despite struggles in their qualification group, they want that second spot. They lack stability and there is no team cohesion or real tactical plan. They will look to Obafemi Martins and forward Chinedu Obasi to score the goals to fire them through to the second round.

Argentina looks to strong not to win this game, though if anyone in the group could upset them Nigeria would be the ones to watch.

With the caliber of their team and the goal scoring potential of the likes of Messi, Aguero and Tevez, this could easily be the first high scoring game of the tournament.

good day , the problem of nigeria is coroption and if super eagle want to win angentina there most been a strong defence and a good atarker i known nigeria have a good gool keeper

There is nothing special about Argentinas player. nigeria players should understand that they are playing against Eleven. each player should avoid commiting error that can give Argentine spot kick..man to man should be the tack.

Nigeria will win Argentina with 2-1. It will be the most tensed up game. Nigeria would have advantange of home supporters who shall cheer them up all through the game. I beleive that Nigeria will score their first goal before Argentina would retariate with an equalizer, but at the end, Nigeria will slot in yet the winner goal.

Look back in history and you’ll try to find the number of times nigeria has been beaten by any team with more than one goal and you’ll see that your 3:0 prediction against Nigeria is a joke.

My aguement is best on history.Nigeria will defeat d argentines by 1 one goal difference and tension will be to much on d eagles. Abduboy yola.

D preparation of nigerian super eagles is late. And we dont have team work so we are fallen to argentina 2 \1 Abduboy yola.

well, no team is going to the competition to LOSE…. all will want to win….. but i think if nigeria work with determination, Agentina will not find it easy….. the match i give to Nigeria….

ur prediction is sooo wrong. Nigeria may be in poor form but the Argentines are filled with selfish, egostical players. I know June 12, 2010 will be a surprise to many

nageria will beat agentina 2-1 the only thing that nageria can do is defance and atarck. my prayer to super eagle is to win the first mach (AMEN).

There is nothing special about Agentina,we are well able to overcome them, forget about Messi,if Eagle come out with all there mind to play they will outplay Agentina,it is possible to win them at the worst draw.I predict Nigeria2 agentina 1. Goodluck of our President will follow the Eagle to conquer Agentina.

Nigeria will win if the can mount strong attack and not to give any room for error. I hope Nigeria will come out fine. Nigeria have good players and if their physical ability is strong, Argentina will find it difficult to get their passes through. I wish the Eagles good luck.

well to me i will love to give it up to Nigeria but i think we dont deserve it, let us face the reality, do you ever think of whom whe are facing? we are just talking about Messi, Argentina has better players than Messi, there we have Diego Milito, the Man that won the Champions league for inter Millan, and we have Carlos Teves, and also Marcherano, also Iguain, and many more, so we are playing against the giant and the chances of Nigeria winning of veru slim, if only God inter vain and i pray the Goodluck of our President follow the Super Eagle, i reserve my next commnet…Tommy.
