These teams have only met once previously in the Group stage during the 1982 World Cup, with the Catrachos holding hosts Spain to a 1-1 draw.
Now the two will square off again in the last game of the second set of group stage matches.
Despite an embarrassing loss to the Swiss, Spain are still the favorites, but rank outsiders Honduras will be looking to do some giant slaying of their own. 
Gelson Fernandes scored on a rare Swiss attack, giving his team a stunning 1-0 upset Wednesday over European champion and tournament favorite Spain.
The loss ended Spain’s run of 12 straight wins and handed the La Roja just their second loss in 50 games. Spain’s defeat against Switzerland was the first time they lost with Andres Iniesta in the starting line-up. The Barcelona midfielder could not provide the spark to ignite his country’s attack.
He was taken out in the 77th minute after a crunching tackle from Stephan Lichtsteiner. Del Bosque brought on striker Fernando Torres in the 62nd minute, but the Swiss defenders stumped him as well. David Villa was Spain’s most dangerous forward, but the top scorer from the European Championships in 2008 repeatedly saw his efforts blocked or go wide.
Spain has stated it will not change its game plan against Honduras, which may prove to be a critical error.
Honduras is still looking for their first World Cup win after falling 1-0 in their Group H opening match on Wednesday against Chile.
Matias Fernandez split the Honduras defense with a delightful pass, releasing Mauricio Isla down the right flank. His cross from was met at the front by Honduran defender Sergio Mendoza, who tried to clear the ball but it cannoned off the Chilean into the Honduran net.
Honduras may have already exceeded expectations by just getting to the World Cup finals. Anything else would be a bonus, so maybe they should be happy with what they have achieved –probably not. However, they seem to lack the firepower or defense to go much further, but stranger upsets have happened.
No side has ever won the World Cup after losing their opening group game, so both squads here will be hoping to buck the trend.
Honduras have conceded exactly one goal in each of their four World Cup finals games, while Spain have kept only five clean sheets in their last 21 World Cup finals games.
