The fourth match of Group B will match up the two losers of game one of the group round. Nigeria should have several advantages including the fact they are likely to have more support and better acclimatization with the cup being hosted on African soil. However, it will remain to be seen if the side can overcome key injuries that have hit the squad harder than expected.

Greece has a history of being a dark horse, coming from seemingly nowhere to win Euro 2004, so even after being dismantled in their opener, they should not be taken lightly.

The last time Greece participated in the World Cup finals was in 1994 and they lost all their matches without scoring a single goal. Otto Rehhagel’s side were completely outplayed by South Korea in their opening game and lost 2-0.

A new game promises something better and the Greek army will be looking to bounce back from the defeat to the Asian giants where they played a lackluster and downright uninspired match.A defeat for Greece would virtually see them knocked out of the competition, and indeed the Euro 2004 winners will be looking to avoid their second successive loss in the competition.

Are Greece yet again destined to finish the FIFA World Cup finals without a goal? What do the 2004 European champions have to do to end this sequence?

Meabwhile, Nigeria is considered to be one of the giants of African football, but they didn’t look to be against Argentina in their opening game of the group as they went down 1-0 to Messi and company.

The results could have been much worse if it weren’t for the heroics of Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama. The Super Eagles did have their chances and may also point out that Gabriel Heinze’s headed goal shouldn’t have stood.

Nigeria are well aware that a defeat on Thursday could likely ruin their chances of qualification for the second round of the World Cup.

A defeat would mean that they would have zero points from two matches and their elimination from the World Cup would be confirmed if Argentina and South Korea play out a draw.

This is a difficult match to call. Although Greece will be most insistent on redeeming themselves after the pounding they took.

Nigeria vs. Greece Free Pick

Nigeria seem to have a slight edge over their rivals, so my play is a 2-1 win for the Super Eagles.

  1. 1-0 Nigeria 28 minutes into the 1st half. Another goalkeeping blunder by the Greek netminder. Nigeria is taking the game to the Greeks right now.
