Spain, who has hardly been at their best so far in South Africa, will need a victory over Chile in order to secure a place in the knockout phase. Anything else, and the tournament favorites could be headed for a shocking exit.

Chile on the other hand, knows that a point will see them to the top of the group, and in all probability avoid Brazil in stage two.

Chile became the answer to this trivia question: what team broke Switzerland’s world cup record of 551 minutes without allowing a goal? That lone goal was enough to win 1-0 and was scored by a substitute.

Mark Gonzalez scored on a header from fellow sub Esteban Paredes in the 75th minute Monday. Switzerland was playing a man down since the 31st minute after midfielder Valone Behrami was red carded for roughing Arturo Vidal. The ejection was controversial as it was for contact on the neck. Swiss sub Eren Derdiyok almost tied things up in the 90th minute but shot wide.

Chile’s Carlos Carmona received one of nine yellow cards handed out, his second of the tournament. He will sit out Chile’s match against Spain. The Chile defense is yet to concede a goal so far in South Africa, and they will need to be just as impressive against Spain.

After a disappointing opening loss to the Swiss, Spain regrouped to beat Honduras 2-0 on Monday. Bet on Soccer at Sportsbook.com

David Villa scored the two goals, beating three defenders in the 17th minute, and then scoring his 40th international goal in the 51st. He moved within four goals of Raul Gonzalez’s record 44. Star striker Fernando Torres made his first start since right knee surgery in April and missed several golden opportunities against the Hondurans.

He will be desperate for a goal, having not scored for Spain in a competitive game since his winning goal in the final of Euro 2008.

Coach Vicente del Bosque will probably name an unchanged side, as the squad looked very dangerous against Honduras.

The big question is whether the Chileans can be as disciplined against the Spanish as they have been in their prior matches.

Once Spain unleashes their arsenal, panic and confusion will set in as they try to stop the barrage. However, Switzerland proved in their win over Spain that they are not unbeatable.

The Spanish have too much quality to be eliminated at such an early stage of the World Cup, and they proved at Euro 2008 that they could play under pressure.

Spain vs. Chile Free Pick

I expect a comfortable win over their South American opponents.
