World Cup Fixture Odds: Brazil –1250 / North Korea +1850 / Draw +875

This is probably one of the biggest mis-matches of the World Cup’s “group of death”, in the early going.

With Brazil just behind Spain as the second favorites to win it all this summer, and North Korea conversely second to last behind New Zealand at around 2000/1 to hoist the trophy, barring any serious upset this should the most comfortable pounding Brazil will get to deliver as they make their way out of an otherwise tricky group.

The Brazilians are the only side to have taken part in every edition of the global showpiece, and Coach Dunga is well familiar with the pressures and emotions that come with playing for the Samba Kings. He also knows that that any outcome other than a sixth world crown will be considered a failure.

Despite qualifying for the 2010 World Cup with three match days to spare, the team had to endure a savage onslaught by the Brazilian supporters, due to successive goalless home draws – ignoring the team’s nine wins and seven draws, plus the World Cup qualification. However, despite the hostile treatment, the team pushed through with impressive victories over Uruguay and Argentina, successfully completing a streak of five wins.

It’s all or nothing for Brazil so a win in their first outing will set the table.

It’s a much different story for North Korea.  This is only their second time in the World Cup, with a quarterfinal finish back in 1968.

They are in a tough group and not much is expected of them. Sadly, considering the competition, a draw would be a victory. The squad consists predominantly of domestic club players with little international experience.  Midfielder Mun In-Guk is one of the local stars, with Ri Myong-Guk guarding the nets, the powerful Jong Tae-Se who is based in Japan, and the high point’s scorer Hong Yong-Jo.

Coach Kim Jong-Hun’s lacks experience in the wider international scene himself, and will approach from a simple and practical defensive angle to try to give the team a chance for victory.

He will focus largely on discipline and teamwork keeping everything together and the game close as long as he can.

As potentially the biggest forgone conclusion in this round, it is very difficult to even imagine anything other than a huge win for Brazil in this match.

They will be looking for as many goals as they can before taking on the rest of the group.

Brazil vs. North Korea Free Pick

I expect a four-goal win for the Samba kings in this one.
