The USA will take on Algeria in their last match of the group stages on Wednesday with both sides still in the hunt for a Round of 16 appearance. The Americans are currently in second place after two draws and a win would secure them a spot as one of the teams advancing to the knockout round.

Algeria on the other hand, is coming off of a big draw with England and will be looking to do the same if not better against the Americans, as their hopes of advancement are too still very much alive.

Koman Coulibaly should be weary of checking his mailbox, as I would expect many death threats to start arriving.

He is after all the referee who cost the US a win against Slovenia after an impressive comeback from a 2-0 deficit. He disallowed Maurice Edu’s 85th-minute goal, which would have given a 3-2 lead. Instead, the US settled for its second draw, the first being against England. The United States can advance on a draw only if England loses to Slovenia.

If the US and England draw, the Americans would advance provided they end up with more goals scored than England. Currently the U.S. has three goals, while England has one, so a win is optimal.

Head coach Bob Bradley will have to find a replacement for forward Robbie Findley, who is suspended after two yellow cards, and that is likely to be Maurice Edu, who came on for Findley at half-time in their 2-2 draw with Slovenia and helped inspire a fight back from 2-0 down.

Algeria’s outlook is bleaker, with only one point after a 1-0 loss to Slovenia and a scoreless draw with England. Anything but a victory will end their run in this year’s tournament.

Even if they win, they would be eliminated if group leader Slovenia loses narrowly to the English.

The side will get a timely offensive boost with the return of striker Abdelkader Ghezzal, who is back for Algeria after a one-match suspension following a red card in the opening game.Bet on Soccer at Sportsbook.com

After some early struggles and disagreements, the team seems happy and is in the best shape to play such a critical match. Algeria need to make like they did in their qualifying playoff with Egypt when Yahia scored the only goal of the game, or maybe like they did against the same Egyptian side in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations, when they lost 4-0 and finished the match with eight men.

One of the USA’s biggest concerns will be giving up early goals. In both of their other matches they allowed a goal before the 15-minute mark.

Fortunately, they have been able to fight back and get the point from a draw, but this is a match that’s too significant to try and play catch up.

USA vs. Algeria Free Pick

I expect the US to clinch a trip to the knockout stage by edging out a one-goal difference in this one.
