England is back for their second Group C match, taking on African rank outsiders Algeria.

The Three Lions were robbed of a 1-0 victory and the top spot in the group after keeper Robert Green gave the USA a gift when he the mishandled a 25-yard shot that allowed the Americans to tie the game just five minutes before the half.

Meanwhile, the Algerians fell 1-0 to Slovenia on a late goal after being left 10-sided in a cagey but hard-fought affair.

It took just a split second for the ball to skip across the turf and through his fingers, but Robert Green will feel the repercussions for the rest of his life.

The England goalkeeper’s blunder allowed the United States to salvage a 1-1 draw in its World Cup opener. England was ahead thanks to Steven Gerrard’s fifth-minute goal and looking good to make a winning start to its campaign.

But after 40 minutes USA midfielder Clint Dempsey, under pressure from Gerrard took a desperation shot from just atop the penalty area. It was the kind of strike any self-respecting keeper should have little trouble collecting, but Green incredibly allowed it to slip past him and into the net for the equalizing goal.

The USA hung on in the second half with a valiant defensive effort to clinch a draw. Even though he refused to admit it publicly, Capello must be considering his choices in goal.

Algeria lost its World Cup opener against Slovenia on Sunday after costly mistakes by substitute striker Abdelkader Ghezzal and goalkeeper Fawzi Chaouchi.

But Coach Rabah Saadane did not blame either player, and stuck by his decisions. Ghezzal’s second yellow card left his team with 10 players from the 74th minute. Six minutes later, Chaouchi misjudged Slovenia captain Robert Koren’s 25-meter shot and let in what would be the game-winning goal.

The loss makes an already difficult task, nearly impossible as Algeria try to advance from Group C, which also includes England.

With Ghezzal now ruled out of Algeria’s match against England in Cape Town on Friday, Chaouchi could retain his spot.

Saadane said the morale of his team won’t be affected by the pair’s mistakes, but that will remain to be seen.

This match should fall to in England’s favor, and the odds makers are putting a lot of expectation on Rooney and company as you can see by the betting lines.
