Mexico vs. Netherlands Odds 2014 World Cup Free Picks – Round of 16

Holland vs Mexico Prediction – June 29

Netherlands Looks to Keep the Roll Going Play Mexico in Round of 16

The runaway winners of Group B the Netherlands face close runner-ups in Group A Mexico in what has all the makings of a classic Group of 16 match Sunday. [ad-1519080]

Netherlands (3-0-0) vs. Mexico (2-0-1)
Where: Estádio Castelão, Fortaleza
When: Sunday, June 29, 2014, 12:00PM ET
Netherlands vs. Mexico Betting Lines
Netherlands -½ +110 +110 Ov 2½ +125
Mexico +½ -130 +240 Un 2½ -145
Draw +220

The Dutch have been terrific so far with an attack second to almost none in the tournament while the much maligned Mexicans shrugged off some pre-tournament strife and secured seven points in their Group – missing out on top spot in the Group by goal differential with host Brazil.

The Dutch look like a team on a mission ahead of their Round of 16 game. Runners-up in the last World Cup the Netherlands has been an offensive machine with everyone clicking on both sides of the ball. While the defending has been good for the Netherlands, it is going to be all about the offense for the Dutch the rest of the way.

They scored 10 times in their three Group Stage games – expect the offense to steal the show again Sunday.

Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben both have three goals in this tournament, behind only Brazilian genius Neymar, Memphis Depay has two goals, Daley Blind has three assists and Wesley Sneijder has been terrific setting up what has been an outstanding counter-attack.

Van Persie returns after a one game ban after two yellows – he should be rested and ready to terrorize after a one game hiatus.

Defending is the only real concern for the Netherlands ahead of Sunday’s match. Keeper Jasper Cillessen has looked shaky at times and defender Nigel de Jong’s aggressiveness could be an issue against Mexico’s opportunistic offense.

Mexico was a team in flux heading into the World Cup needing a qualifier and some help from the US just to get to Brazil. But those issues are clearly in the past. A 0-0 draw with Brazil was a terrific result while convincing wins against Croatia and Cameroon were not shocking but impressive just the same.

Mexico has gotten by this far with tremendous defending – goaltender Guillermo Ochoa had a game for the ages against Brazil. He has been remarkable and will likely be called on early and often against the offensive juggernaut – the Netherlands.

Oribe Peralta, Manchester United’s Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, Rafael Marquez and Villarreal star Giovani Dos Santos have picked their spots up front for Mexico; taking advantage of seemingly every opportunity afforded them.

Mexico will have to take their defending to a different level Sunday and hope their big four offensive players can convert.

World Cup – Round of 16 Betting Prediction:

The Dutch look like a team of destiny – a win against Spain in the opener served notice that the Dutch are serious contenders this year!

While I think Mexico will make a game of it, I can’t see them scoring enough to threaten the Netherlands. World Cup 2014 has been full of upsets – there is a chance that Mexico pulls another. BUT I don’t see it happening.

My play here is on the Dutch and I am taking a serious look at the Over as well.

Pick: The Netherlands +110 and the Over – 2 1/2 goals
