Honduras will also need a little help from Ecuador who needs to lose to France if Los Catrachos is to make it out of Group E action by the end of the day.

Switzerland, meanwhile, are tied with Ecuador for the runner-up position with three points but they’re down on goal differential, so they will need a win to keep their hopes alive. They could advance however with a draw if France beats Ecuador.

Honduras will rely on their string of MLS stars that helped them record them a win at the CONCACAF, which includes Costly, a towering forward who is his country’s fourth all-time leading scorer. He has 32 goals for Honduras, and will need a bunch more if Coach Luis Fernando Suárez’s side is to advance.

Despite the long odds, Honduras will give everything they have left against the Swiss, who met in their final group-stage match of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Both teams played to a scoreless draw that resulted in their elimination in that one, as defense was key.

Defense will be critical again in Wednesday’s match and the Swiss will be at a slight disadvantage as they will be without defender Steve von Bergen, who came off in the seventh minute of the side’s 5-2 loss to France after taking a kick to the face. The high kick resulted in a broken bone in von Bergen’s face.

That means the Swiss will lean heavily on midfielder, Granit Xhaka who is one of Switzerland’s most promising young players.

The 21-year-old scores his first World Cup goal against France and was one of the game’s most dangerous players.

Prediction – Switzerland-

Switzerland has scored 10 of their last 12 World Cup goals during second half, so a slow defensive start could work to its advantage, especially against a Honduras side that has had its share of difficulties finding the back of the net.
