It should be a superb Final Sunday – let`s break down what is a terrific matchup.

Germany comes into the final the favorite and rightfully so. They have 17 goals in the tournament (a 4-0 win against Portugal and a 7-1 win against Brazil) and are coming off the utter annihilation of Brazil. Germany has the highest-scoring player in World Cup history in Miroslav Klose, Thomas Mueller has 5 goals in the six games thus far, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Sami Khedira, Philipp Lahm, Mats Hummels and Toni Kroos who has two goals and three assists in six matches.

Translation – the Germans have an enormous amount of depth – a host of players that can and will beat you.

Philip Lahm has improved drastically since he was inserted at right back and Matt Hummels has been good in central defense. Along with arguably the best midfielders in the tournament – Bastian Schweinsteiger, Sami Khedira, Toni Kroos and Mesut Ozil, Germany has done a good job of taking care of business in their own end slowing the likes of France and Brazil

Germany can limit the opposition and start an incredible counter attack at the drop of a hat – something that Argentina is going to have to be very aware of.

Argentina is going to have to defend first against the Germans and despite the pre-tournament criticism of this aspect of their game; they have been effective thus far – not giving up much to their opposition in the tournament. Germany brings one of the most potent offenses a World Cup has ever seen but Argentina just held the high flying Dutch to zero shots on target in the first 70 minutes of their semifinal and it has been over 330 minutes since an Argentinean opposition player has found the back of the net – impressive indeed. Names like Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis may not be stealing many headlines but they have certainly done their part in making the Dutch and everyone else look simply average.

Offensively Argentina has been just OK – they have yet to win a game by more than one goal. It appears as though team have found a way to slow this attack – stop Lionel Messi and you will have a chance. Messi, arguably the most gifted player on the planet has yet to score in the knockout rounds – a “mini-slump” that has come at precisely the wrong time. Still, Messi is a game changer – the likes that Germany doesn’t quite possess. Argentina has to hope that midfielder Angel Di Maria can return from injury however – he is a straw that stirs the drink for Argentina – he gets the team forward and provides some stability in the attack.

Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero have been a decent compliment to Messi – their play Sunday may determine the result. We know that Messi will play well – he always does on the biggest stages but we also know he will be getting more than his share of attention from Germany’s defense. If Higuain and Aguero can bury the chances they are almost certain to get, Argentina is in very, very good shape.

Betting Prediction:

Germany enters the Final with more depth and more playmakers all over the field. But if there is one minor flaw on the team it is their back line. Defending hasn’t been a problem yet for the Germans but look for Messi and his counterparts to exploit this back line just a tad Sunday. Germany lacks the true game breaker and I think that’s the difference in the Final.

This looks like Lionel Messi’s stage to me. In what is bound to be a tight, low scoring affair, I have a feeling that the best player in the world proves his class and erases all doubt about why he is a legend already.

In this case, I`ll take the best player in the world to upset the best team in the world!

Pick: Argentina +220
