Both of these sides are coming off surprising games a week ago; West Ham were paid a visit by Liverpool whom they promptly disposed of by a 3-1 count, while Man U were embarrassed at Leicester, blowing a 3-1 lead and eventually falling 5-3.

There was a time when the mere suggestion that West Ham would be above Manchester United on the league table after five matches played would be reason enough to have a person committed. That time has since passed, and Man U are a side in turmoil and look to be on their way to another season outside of the top four.

Let’s take a glance at how this match shapes up and get a briefing on both sides.

West Ham

The Hammers were indeed mighty last week, dispatching of Liverpool in a 3-1 win where they led from the second minute into the match and never relinquished that lead.

West Ham have not been held off the score sheet since their opening week fixture against Tottenham when they were blanked 1-0. Since  that match, the boys in burgundy and blue have enjoyed a pair of 3-1 wins at Crystal Palace and home to Liverpool a week ago. Sandwiched between those two victories are a 2-2 draw at Hull City and a 3-1 loss at home to Southampton.

Scoring goals is all well and good but this team has lacked the ability to really stymie their opponents and have been unable to earn a clean sheet thus far. Their goal differential stands at a mere +1 right now, but they can take solstice in the fact that they’ve made the most of that one goal to the good with two wins and a draw to account for seven points and a tie for eighth place in the EPL.

Manchester United

This side is in a state of flux. It was a tumultuous summer with the sacking of manager David Moyes and they still look to be a team without a leader. The talent alone on this side should be enough to have them with more than just one win. The additions of Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid and Radamel Falcao from AS Monaco are big in name, but they will have to be more than just big names with big price tags if this team is to return to respectability.

The Red Devils share West Ham’s +1 goal differential but have just one win and two draws to show for it, and sit on just five points in five matches (their worst ever start to a Premier League season) mired in 12th place for now.

If there is solstice for Man U this week it is that they have held serve over West Ham for decades, especially at Old Trafford. Man U have won 16 of their last 18 games against the Hammers at Old Trafford and have outscored them by a staggering 44-9 margin. West Ham have not beaten Manchester in the last 11 league meetings between the two and have failed to even register a goal in seven of those, while coughing up 30 goals.

West Ham vs Manchester United Free Pick

History favours the home side in this one and though they will be at home, the crowd will be on edge as this is a game that Man U can not afford to lose and risk going into complete free fall early on in the campaign.

United were able to find the back of the net early and often at Leicester last week and West Ham do not play a stingy brand of defense. If United can muster a similar offensive effort this week they should be able to close the door on the Hammers and cover the 1.5 goal spread.

Pick Man U to cover 1.5 in this one paying +100
