Hammers’ boss Avram Grant will want to relive his first league victory at West Ham who beat the Hotspur 1-0 in the reversal back in September on Frederic Piquionne’s header, ending a run of five successive Spurs wins.

Now they will travel to White Hart Lane, a place where West Ham has not won a match since a 2-1 win on April 24, 1999, in what promises to be an unpredictable London derby.

The east Londoners did the league double over Tottenham that season, but have lost on seven of their subsequent 10 trips to the Lane in all competitions and have not scored on Spurs’ soil since 2005.

This will be Tottenham’s first Premier League game at White Hart Lane for six weeks, and Harry Redknapp’ side has not been good when retuning from abroad, dropping points in five of nine Premier League games that have followed Champions League play. Three of their six league losses this season have come just after being way for European action, including their only home defeat against Wigan last summer.

That was their only loss in the last 24 EPL matches at home. They have won five of their last seven home league games, drawing the other two against league leaders Chelsea and Manchester United.

The Hotspur have played very well defensively as of late, shutting out nine-time European champions AC Milan, but when it comes to domestic sides, they have conceded six goals in their last two league matches, while netting just three.

Not what you want, facing a Hammers’ side that has scored 15 times in their last five league and cup matches. Demba Ba leads the side during that stretch, having scored four goals in three of those.

If that’s not enough to strangle an already struggling Hotspur back line, the side could also be without talisman William Gallas. The 33-year-old France defender picked up a knock in training, and there were concerns about his hamstring.

The Hammers have taken 11 points from the last possible 18, as have Tottenham. Only three clubs have better recent records. Arsenal (14), Liverpool and Chelsea (both 13).

Mix in Grant’s desire to repeat his FA Cup semi-final last season, when the cunning Israeli masterminded Portsmouth’s shocking win over Tottenham, and that fact that West Ham is fighting tooth and nail in every game and for every point to escape relegation, the Spurs defense could be in for another romp on Saturday. If they should fall behind early, their recent goal scoring drought could seal the deal for the Hammers as they upset the Spurs at home.

Matt’s Free Prediction: West Ham 1, Tottenham 0
