The Hotspur will return to English Premier League action with a bit of momentum having played European champions Inter Milan over two weeks, beating them 6-5 on aggregate.

They will kickoff against Bolton who is holding their won in league play, sitting 11th on the table, having lost just one match at home this season. A defeat to Liverpool in the 86th minute of play.

The Wanderers will seek to extend that home record by defeating the Spurs, a side that has never lost to Bolton at the Reebok stadium. The last time they beat them was in 1996, 3-2 at their old home, Burnden Park.

The two clubs met four times in 2009 – twice in the FA Cup – and Tottenham won with an aggregate score of 9-3.

However, Bolton is a well-trained side and is more than capable of upsetting the leagues’ top table sides as they showed with a 2-2 draw against Manchester United.

They will now have to contend with the likes of Gareth Bale, who after elevating himself among the elite players with his recent performances against Inter, will attempt to help his side put a controversial 2-0 defeat at Old Trafford behind them, while keeping pace with fourth-placed Manchester City. The club is keeping a watchful eye and looking to close the two-point gap off a Champions League spot, and three points from a win this weekend could leapfrog them into contention.

In turn, the Spurs must be able to break down the Wanderers defensive core that includes former Arsenal youngster, Fabrice Muamba, who has gone from leading the Gunners to bolstering Bolton’s defense with defensive midfield play. Muamba, who has recently been criticized for a challenge on James McCarthy, possesses strong tackling ability, which allows him to win the ball in tight quarters.

Stopping Tottenham’s midfield creativity will be necessary if Bolton want to come away with three points from this one.

Goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, who was held responsible for his part in the controversial Nani goal against Man U, will certainly be keeping the ball in his hands at all times, whistle or no whistle. The Brazilian stopper is a superb shot stopper who can pull of some truly jaw-dropping saves. He will now be challenged with the dauntless task of keeping Bolton’s aerial threat, from crosses and set pieces, from ending up in the back of the Hotspurs’ net.

A good match up to keep your eye on will be Zat Knight versus Peter Crouch. Standing at 6′ 6”, Knight is the only Premier League defender who can (literally) match Crouch inch-for-inch. The pair’s heading ability may be a factor in the outcome.

Matt’s Free Prediction: The Hotspurs history against Bolton at the Reebok is on their side but a tired side could see them drop points. Bolton could capitalize but not enough for a win, but possibly a 1-1 draw.
