A win for Manchester City could leapfrog then over Chelsea for third place on the table, while a win for Liverpool would extend their lead over inner city rivals, Everton.

Although the chances for City to take home the EPL title this season are dashed, they must keep winning to finish third. If not, they could either be surpassed by Tottenham for the last Champions League spot, or they could finish fourth and have to go through Champions League qualifying instead of receiving an automatic bid.

It will not be easy for the Blues who have failed to win an away league game in 2011, taking two points from a possible 15 and will remain without injured duo Jerome Boateng and Micah Richards.

And while Manchester City is unbeaten in their last four games against Liverpool, they have failed to win on their last seven trips to Anfield (D2, L5). Their most recent victory at Liverpool was on 3 May 2003, when Nicolas Anelka converted two penalties in a 2-1 win.

But now is as good a time as any to reverse that trend, as the Blues could carry some momentum into Monday’s match, coming off a 5-0 win against Sunderland last time out. They will need to reproduce that form away from Eastlands, as City has yet to win on the road in 2011 in either league or cup.

Meanwhile, the Reds have won six of their last nine league games, keeping one clean sheet, and are unbeaten in their last six league matches at Anfield.

But injuries are beginning to expose the lack of depth in the squad as the Merseysiders ended the 2-1 defeat at West Brom with four centre-backs in defense. The Reds will start Monday’s match without injured defenders Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson, while captain Steven Gerrard has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Anything other than a Liverpool victory will end their faint hopes of snatching a Champions League spot, and dent their chances of qualifying for the Europa League. It’s been a tough and strange few months for Liverpool, and the end of a difficult campaign is closing on the horizon.

It’s no secret that Man City is loaded with talent, most of whom will be available for tomorrow’s match. The only semi-regulars the Blues will be without are Kolo Toure and Micah Richards, with the rest of the squad managing to come out of the international break and Sunderland match unscathed.

While a powerful strike force that includes Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli, David Silva, and Adam Johnson who have combined for 50 goals on the season, the superb play of keeper Joe Hart has conceded the least goals in league play (27) while keeping 14 Premier League clean sheets –more than any other top-flight side.

City fans may have one eye on Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against rival Manchester United, but it is clear the side wants a top-four finish this season.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Manchester City 2, Liverpool 1
