Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish will look to get his side back on the rails as the Reds travel to one of this year’s surprises, Blackpool, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Reds have lost five out of its last seven matches including a recent defeat to table topper Manchester United this past weekend as the Dalglish’s men dangle very close to being drawn into a relegation battle as the season nears the halfway point.

Meanwhile, Blackpool is no pushovers as Liverpool know only too well after their 2-1 home defeat to the newly promoted team earlier this season.

Dalglish was thrust into the captains’ chair of a sinking ship after the sudden by anticipated departure of Roy Hodgson last weekend, and his first match in charge against Manchester United was a disaster. Liverpool has appointed former Chelsea, West Ham, and Newcastle assistant manager Steve Clarke as first-team coach to help the Scot. Clarke, the successful former No. 2 to Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, will join Dalglish’s Anfield revolution in time for Wednesday’s match.

Although Liverpool was knocked out of the FA cup by their rivals with a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford, it was Steven Gerrard’s dismissal and subsequent three-match ban that will be the most the biggest loss. Gerrard will now miss the trip to Blackpool as well as the crucial Merseyside derby at home to Everton and a visit to Wolverhampton.

Without their talisman, Liverpool will struggle, and with striker Fernando Torres out of form and a lack of other world-class options, the Reds chances for a win at surging Blackpool looks extremely grim.

Even former Chelsea and West Ham player Joe Cole, has been silent and will need to produce another inspirational moment ala his last-minute winner against Bolton if the Reds are to get anything from the match.

As for Blackpool, they continue to shine as they defy the critics by continuing to say up on the table and are just one point behind their midweek visitors. Ian Halloway has worked plenty of magic with his small, underfunded squad.

The side’s success can be attributed to its organization, determination to win, and a will to work hard as every squad member contributes. Their key creator, and last year’s maestro Charlie Adam, has not quite hit the heights – only three league goals — but he is long overdue to find the back of the net. In the meantime, leading scoring DJ Campbell has netted four goals in his last four starts and remains in terrific form to terrorize the Reds back line who will already be trying to find their balance without Gerrard.

Blackpool has already taken three points from Liverpool this season, and they should add to that tally at the weekend.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Blackpool 1, Liverpool 1
