Everton vs. Liverpool EPL 2011 Betting Picks + Odds

This is the first of two meetings between these two cross town rivals, and if Everton are to get a one up on the Reds, this would be the time to do it.

When: Saturday, 7:45 AM EST
Where: Goodison Park, Liverpool
TV: ESPN 2/ESPN 3
Line: Everton (+200), Liverpool (+135), Tie (+220)

The Reds haven’t exactly been playing stellar football as of late, and while Everton haven’t either, there is no doubt about the fact that they will be up for this fixture. They, will want to hold serve in their home park this weekend and they should be able to make it an interesting match, even though the EPL betting lines have them coming into the fray as a slight underdog.

If you look at Liverpool’s recent run of play in the league, you will see a team that is reeling just a bit.

They are coming off of a solid 2-1 victory at home against the Wolves, but looked a bit off in doing so however. Not to take anything away from the Reds, it’s just that they aren’t going to outclass Everton.

They have a very capable side, even though they have failed to find a man to score goals for them on a consistent basis thus far.

Though Liverpool has an overall edge in the meeting between these two, Everton were the side with success a season ago.

They first held serve at their play with a two to nil victory, then they went into Anfield and scraped out a two all draw. Could a similar story be the case in this 2011/2012 season? [ad-3678122]

Don’t overlook the fact that Liverpool are going to be without two of their most reliable defenders for this one. Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger are key pieces to that backline. Without them, they are a mostly young and inexperienced bunch. A group that should be exploited by the trio of Marouane Fellaini, Tim Cahill, and Jack Rodwell.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is a very capable goal scorer, and I wouldn’t put it past him to get on the score sheet this weekend. However, the odds of Tim Howard conceding multiple goals in back to back matches are not that high, which means that the Reds will have to keep Everton out of the goal.

The Reds backline may not be able to make that happen as they have failed to keep a clean sheet since their second match of the season against a dismal Arsenal bunch.

As for Everton, they have only been kept out one match in their last four. That was their most recent clash with second place Manchester City. Nothing against the Reds, but they just do not have the personnel that City possess at this moment in time.

Everton are not a side without their flaws however. There is a reason they sit in the bottom half of the table currently. Don’t expect that trend to continue as they have the makeup of a side that could compete for continental football this season. They do lack a true goal scoring threat, but they do have a solid backline. A backline that is anchored by the always impressive Howard.

Prediction: Everton 2:1 Liverpool-I feel that Liverpool are the stronger side, but expect Everton to put up a strong fight here at home against its cross town rival. It’s hard to pick against the Reds, but I’m going to step out on a limb and say Everton are going to keep their good run of play against Liverpool intact.
