The Seattle Sounders will be looking to snap their two-match losing streak when they kick off against a Houston Dynamo side that is still searching for their first win on the young season on Friday night in soggy Seattle.

These two clubs met in the 2009 conference semifinals while Houston was still in the Western Conference, and that year also played an intense Open Cup semifinal.

After four initial years of dominance that included four playoff runs, two MLS Cup championships, and two appearances in the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals, Houston was looking good, but last season the club imploded finishing second from the bottom of the Western Conference and out of the playoffs

This year hasn’t started much better, as they weren’t able to kick off their move to the Eastern Conference with a result, falling 1-0 to Philadelphia Union on Saturday evening at Robertson Stadium. The lone goal of the match came after just five minutes. A long throw into the area from Sheanon Williams to  Sebastien Le Toux whose shot rang of the post, but Danny Califf was there to tap in the rebound.

Meanwhile, Seattle went down to defeat for the second time, again falling by a line goal, 1-0, in a loss to the New York Red Bulls on Saturday at Red Bull Arena.

The game’s only goal came with just 20 minutes remaining when Juan Agudelo ran on to a long ball played out of midfield by Teemu Tainio, and sent a sweeping shot past Sounders keeper Kasey Keller who kept his side in the game by saving  a penalty kick from New York’s Thierry Henry in the ninth minute. His second penalty save in MLS.

Seattle had lost their season opener, 1-0 to the LA Galaxy just four days before.

The two teams have meet four times with the Sounders leading with two wins on six goals to the Dynamos single win on four goals and a draw. Sounders FC have won both league meetings all-time at Qwest Field. The Dynamo have never won in Seattle, including a draw in the 2009 Western Conference Semifinal Series and a Seattle win in a U.S. Open Cup semifinal in 2009.

Seattle’s Steve Zakuani did not make the trip to New York, but the midfielder maestro has been cleared to play on Friday.

Meanwhile Houston’s Brian Ching, the team’s leading scorer in every year of its existence, remains doubtful with injury. Rookie Will Bruin will likely start in his absence alongside newcomer Jason Garey.

Matt’s Free Prediction: With 36,000 rabid fans and a wet Seattle pitch, I look for the Sounders to grab their first win of the season
