Columbia vs. Japan Odds 2014 World Cup Free Picks – Group C

Japan vs Columbia Prediction – June 24

Japan has failed to win a match on its way to being knocked out in the group stage of the World Cup two prior times, and it looks to be three, unless they can find a way to beat a very tough and talented Colombian side that sits atop the group C table. [ad-1519080]

The Japanese began tournament play with a 2-1 loss against the Ivory Coast and then followed it up with a frustrating draw against Greece on Thursday night. If Japan cannot find the attacking success that impressed the world in last year’s Confederation Cup, their summer in Brazil is over.

In a must-win game, Japan will need its best from midfielder Shinji Kagawa, who was dropped from the starting line-up but then returned off the bench against Greece. Kagawa is likely to return after his performance versus the Greeks, which saw him dissect a 10-man Greece side.

The Manchester United playmaker was Japan’s best chance against Greece’s tough defense and has shown that he is possibly the best option that Japan has to beat Colombia.

Meanwhile, Colombian is on a roll after opening tournament play with a 3-0 win over Greece, followed by a 2-1 over the Ivory Coast.

Led by Monaco player James Rodriguez, the Colombians have not disappointed.

Rodriguez, has now scored in all of his last four matches for Colombia, and along with Juan Guillermo Cuadrado on the right flank, the side has been extremely impressive so far this summer.

Cuadrado’s three assists is the most any Colombian player has achieved since the 1966 World Cup, and his ability to collect the ball and begin a passing move or take the ball on himself and run at the defense, has proven catastrophic for the opposing side’s back line.

Japan needs to attack could play into Colombia’s hands, as they should be able to stretch the Japanese defense and open up space for a counter attack, just like they did against the Ivory Coast.

Prediction – Colombia – With the lack of a prolific goal scorer, the best Japan can hope for is a draw here.

However, I expect that Cuadrado will be key component for Colombia’s succession through the knockout stages and put an end to Japan’s hopes of getting to the round of 16.
