Iran did come close to breaking the stalemate though, following a corner chance by Ashkan Dejagah, but keeper Vincent Enyeama’s huge effort kept the ball out of the net to keep the game deadlocked.
As the match wore on Nigeria was doing most of the attacking, but Iran’s impressive defending was keeping them at bay and they will hope that that defensive posture will work to contain Messi and an Argentinean side that gave the Bosnian defense flashes of offensive fits.
Iran did have enough to hold out against a Nigeria however, so they could do well versus Argentina.
Queiroz will likely opt to retain the same team including the injection of Gago and Higuain as he initially looks for his players to repeat the performance of Bosnia.
In the meantime, Iran will look for a way to stifle Messi and his teammates as they did an at-times relentless Super Eagles outfit.

The teams have played once, drawing. And although I expect that Iran’s defense can hold back the Argentina offense to some extent, they face a tough task to make the last 16, against the firepower they will be facing.
