2014 World Cup Free Picks – Group A Mexico vs. Cameroon Odds

Cameroon vs Mexico Prediction – June 13

Perhaps the biggest match in Group A takes place June 13 when Mexico takes on Cameroon to determine which team could join Brazil in the knock-out stage of World Cup 2014. Mexico, Cameroon and Croatia will likely be in a heated battle for the second qualifying spot in Group A. [ad-1519080]

Both teams looked less-than-spectacular in qualifying but will look to erase their sketchy qualifying records and hopefully get a leg up in a Group that is very much up for grabs, except for the host Brazilians of course.

Cameroon finished atop the CAF qualifying and had 4 wins, a draw and a loss in the second stage.

They eventually finished +5 in goal differential and although decent on paper, their road was seen as slightly disappointing. Samuel Eto’o and Benoit Assou-Ekotto make Cameroon competitive but their combined age has many a tad scared off.

Everyone knows that a win against Mexico gives Cameroon a good shot at moving past the group stage – the importance of the first game for Cameroon won’t be underestimated in the least.

Perhaps no team in the World Cup enters amid more turmoil from the top down than Mexico. Mexico has been an absolute disaster since the last World Cup.

In qualifying Mexico won two of 10 matches – 4th place in the CONCACAF.

In fact the Mexicans can thank the US and their two late goals against Panama it and only it allowed Mexico to book a trip to Brazil – otherwise the Mexicans would be watching this tournament from home.

Mexico has switched coached and overhauled their roster in hopes of making some noise in Brazil – home grown talent and a largely unproven unit will take to the pitch June 13.

Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez is about the best know player on the team but he gives the Mexicans credibility.

Depite Mexico’s recent turmoil, there is an expectation that they do advance to the knock-out stage. A win in their first match is crucial to achieve that end.

Betting Prediction:

Both Mexico and Cameroon have been underwhelming – both will be out to make a statement to their fans, themselves and the rest of the world right off the bat. My money is on a draw in this game – +205. Neither team will want to make a mistake off the bat and both could employ a somewhat conservative game plan.

I picked Mexico to advance out of Group A – so if forced to pick a winner between Mexico and Cameroon, it would be Mexico at +125.

They are experienced, they have a better grasp on the climate with which they will be competing in, and they have the pedigree to make a little noise in 2014.
