Sunday, December 20th – LP Field, Nashville – 1:00 PM ET
NFL Point Spread: Tennessee -3, O/U: 40

Miami is coming off a 14-10 win over Jacksonville last week and are riding a modest two-game winning streak. After starting the season 0-3, Miami have quietly won 7 of 10 and are right back into the hunt for not only a Wild Card spot but a spot atop the AFC East as well.

While their upcoming schedule may not be a cakewalk (after the Titans, home games against the Texans and Steelers), the Dolphins have December history on their side. Under Head Coach Tony Sparano, the Fins are a cool 6-0.

The Titans could be playing arguably their biggest game of the season without one of their biggest players. In last week’s 47-7 rout of St. Louis, quarterback Vince Young left the game with a hamstring injury, ceding the rest of the game to Kerry Collins.

It’s not fully known who will start against Miami, but most fans would probably want Young and his 6-1 record as opposed to Collins’ 0-6 mark. A loss against Miami would just about kill any hope of the playoffs. Titans’ fans are praying Young will be ready to play.

What The Dolphins Have To Do To Win

The Dolphins have been winning this season with a strong defense and an even strong running game. While their run defense will have their hands full with Chris Johnson, their run offense should be fine with Ricky Williams at the helm. In Miami’s last five games, Williams has four 100+ rushing games and four touchdowns.

They’ll be facing a Tennessee run defense that ranks 10th in the league, so there may be a bit of a stalemate. That’s where Chad Henne comes in. Henne has played very well in recent weeks, and against the Titans 22nd ranked pass defense that good play should continue.

What The Titans Have To Do To Win

It’s not a big secret how Tennessee has been winning over the past month and a half. Sure, Vince Young has been good, but no one on the Titans (or for that matter the NFL) has been better than Chris Johnson. How good? Johnson needs just 480 yards on the ground to break Eric Dickerson’s record for rushing yards in a season.

That’s an average of 160 yards per game. That may seem daunting to some, but Johnson has rushed over 150 yards four times already this year. He’ll be facing a Miami defense that, although stout, ranks 12th against the run. With Vince Young possibly out, Chris Johnson will most likely have to win this game by himself.

Outlook & Pick

If Vince Young plays, the Titans have a chance. If Kerry Collins plays, their chances can be summed up in a word that rhymes with “glitch.” As good as Chris Johnson is, the Miami defense is competent enough that they can prevent him from winning the game by himself.

The Dolphins have been playing some solid ball as of late and should be able to throw on an underachieving Titans’ secondary. The fact that Tennessee has gotten to this point is a near miracle, considering they started the season 0-6. But this is where their Cinderella story ends.

Pick: Miami +3 & under 40

Prop Betting: Team To Score First And Score In First Six Minutes

The Titans have the momentum playing at home and coming off a 40-point win last week. Chris Johnson will probably score the first points of the game. The Dolphins will bounce back in the end, but the start of this game could be all Tennessee.
