Michael Vick returns to Atlanta. Perhaps this is a big deal? Vick may not be starting, or even get much playing time, but his return to the Georgia Dome is a big event to Falcons fans.

Whether or not he gets booed is still up in the air, although common sense thinks the boos will reign down hard. But the Eagles have been playing fine without Vick playing much, so the negative reaction towards him should have no effect on the rest of his team.

Atlanta is a banged up unit. Both Matt Ryan and Michael Turner left last week’s win against Tampa Bay. Turner is a game-time decision, but Ryan has already been ruled out. That means Chris Redman will make the start. Redman played well-enough last week, but is facing a much more talented Eagles squad this Sunday.

What The Falcons Have To Do To Win

In addition to Ryan being out, the Falcons are faced with some key injuries on offense. Turner may be unable to go on Sunday; same with a pair of offensive lineman. This will contribute to a significant drop in the effectiveness of the Falcons offensive game. The offensive game will rely on the Falcons receiving corps.

Roddy White had an average game last week, but he will be counted on heavily to stretch the Eagles secondary and create plays. That may be easier said than done. Philadelphia has allowed only 202.6 passing yards per game, good for 9th in the league.

What The Eagles Have To Do To Win

The Eagles are also facing some injury problems on offense, but they are more equipped to deal with them. Brian Westbrook is out with a concussion, and DeSean Jackson may join him with a similar ailment. But rookies LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin have proven themselves worthy of starting roles, so the Eagles won’t have to change their offensive system much against Atlanta. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Even without Jackson, McNabb should have a field day against the Falcons. Atlanta has the 27th ranked pass defense. Keep it in the air and the win will come.

Outlook & Pick

The Eagles have begun to hit their stride, and even with injuries they are a very talented team. If Jackson does end up playing, he’ll have the luxury of being able to take it easy and not be relied on to be the main difference maker.

The Falcons are on a five-game winning streak at home, but their injury list is much more vital than Philadelphia’s. Redman is a fine backup, but will be hard-pressed to play 60 minutes of effective football against a talented Eagles defense. Should be a cakewalk for the Iggles.

Pick: Eagles -5.5, and over 44

Prop Betting: Team To Score First And Score In First 7.5 Minutes

If the Eagles win the coin toss, they should be able to march down the field easily and get a quick score. McNabb will be looking to throw early and really test the Falcons defense. If the Falcons win, Redman will experience a quick three-and-out, and McNabb will get the ball back and lead the Eagles downfield. Eagles score first regardless.
