Week 11 Spreads: Chargers vs Broncos

The fans at INVESCO Field at Mile High will be treated to a game between the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos when they take their seats on Sunday. Odds favor the Chargers by 5.5 with Kyle Orton expected to be Out for this one…

NFL Week 11 Game of the Week – San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos

Sunday, November 22nd – 4:15 PM ET
Invesco Field – Denver, CO
NFL Point Spread: NA

This AFC West movie script sounds awfully familiar. In 2008, the San Diego Chargers stood at 4-8 after 12 games. They beat Oakland to move to 5-8, but found themselves three games behind the Denver Broncos with three games left to play.

Improbably, the Broncos lost each of their remaining games while the Lightning Bolts ran the table and pulled out the AFC West. This season, it once again appeared that Denver – at 6-0 – was going to run away with the division, but now the Chargers and Broncos are in a flat-footed tie as they head to the Mile High City.

NFL Handicapping: What The Chargers Have To Do To Win

Figure out the Broncos’ A-gap blitzes. When Denver stymied San Diego earlier in the season in Southern California, the Broncos’ full and frontal blitz scheme, devised by defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, thoroughly overtaxed the Chargers’ hesitant offensive line. There are many ways to produce an NFL win, but in this game, the overriding priority for San Diego coach Norv Turner is to fend off Denver’s defense. As long as the visitors can protect their franchise quarterback, Philip Rivers, they stand a very good chance of leading the AFC West when this day is done in the land of the Rocky Mountains.

NFL Handicapping: What The Broncos Have To Do To Win

Help Chris Simms. Phil Simms’ son has had a rocky, up-and-down journey as an NFL quarterback. Having endured considerable injuries, Simms is still standing after several years of toil and trial. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Simms returned to the gridiron last week after Kyle Orton, Denver’s starting quarterback, got injured in the Broncos’ 27-17 loss at Washington. As Simms receives most of the reps in practice this week, his teammates will be more prepared to play around him. Simms won’t win this game alone; a porous offensive line has to cover his back if Denver is to end a three-game losing skid.

NFL Handicapping: Outlook & Pick

History suggests that San Diego would have been a clear favorite even if Kyle Orton had not been injured against the Redskins. The red-hot Chargers know how to elevate their game in the second half of a season, while the Broncos appear to be in the midst of a very pronounced fade. It’s a big ask to expect Chris Simms to deliver a win against coordinator Ron Rivera’s San Diego defense. The Broncos will need unlikely occurrences in order to pull out this contest; the odds are stacked heavily against them.

NFL Point Spread Pick: Chargers & Under

NFL Prop Betting: Team To Score First And Score In First Seven Minutes

This is a game in which defense should dominate, so the first six minutes are likely to be free of any point production. If a team should score first, it’s definitely the Chargers. Chris Simms will likely need some time to feel comfortable under center.

One reply on “Week 11 Spreads: Chargers vs Broncos”

The spread on this game is revolving around the health of Denver QB Kyle Orton. If he can’t go Chris Simms will get the call. Do not be surprised if Simms has a pretty good game as he has had all week to get ready.
