The highlight of NFL Week 1 betting could come on Thursday, when the defending Super Bowl champions from Pittsburgh will welcome Tennessee to Heinz Field, which hasn’t been kind to the Titans in recent years.

Titans vs Steelers odds – Thursday, September 10, 8:30 PM ET – Steelers -6

The Titans settled on Kerry Collins over Vince Young at quarterback, but it’ll be interesting to see how long that arrangement lasts. Whoever the pivot is, they’ll have LenDale White and Chris Johnson in the backfield again, but there isn’t much at receiver. Nate Washington, who left Pittsburgh for Tennessee, may miss this game with a hamstring problem. The defense still has to replace Albert Haynesworth in the middle of the defensive line, which is a huge void (pun intended). They’ll probably go with a committee, because you just don’t replace an All-Pro player like Haynesworth. The secondary is underrated, led by Michael Griffin, who could be the next great safety in the NFL.

We’re betting management of the Steelers are sticking with the old adage, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Out of 22 starters from 2008, there are 19 back with the team, and they could be better than last season. Ben Roethlisberger is the leader of the offense, and the Steelers have high hopes that Limas Sweed can replace Washington as the No.3 receiver behind Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes, who are both former Super Bowl MVPs. The running game is in good hands with Willie Parker and Rashad Mendenhall, who missed most of last year with a shoulder injury. The defense is still the NFL’s best until further notice, led by Defensive Player of the Year James Harrison and safety Troy Polamalu. As long as they keep it up, the Steelers will have a great online betting chance each time they step onto the field.

The Steelers are 6-point favorites at Heinz Field, where the Titans have lost two of their last three games. Look for the Steelers to go right up the middle on the Titans, who have to prove they can play without Haynesworth anchoring the middle. We’re not so sure that they can, just yet anyway.
